About Cleanconscience

We are working to reduce the huge quantity of waste soap and toiletries from the hospitality sector through redistribution and re-use; to get soap and hygiene products into the hands of those that need it most; and to create volunteering opportunities.

Cleanconscience Description

Every day, millions of bars of soap are discarded by hotels worldwide. Every year, 1. 7 million children die from disease and infection. Half a million of these children could still be alive if they had soap to wash their hands.

The plastic from empty or half-full bottles of hotel toiletries cannot currently be recycled, despite being manufactured from expensive recyclable PET or HDPE. The UK waste industry’s infrastructure is simply unable to capture this waste stream. These bottles all end up in landfill or are being incinerated.

CleanConscience offers the hotel industry a chance to reduce its environmental impact and save lives. Collected soap is sorted, sterilised, reshaped and distributed to those in need of sanitation. Recovered plastics are baled and sent for recycling. Impact is measured and reported.

Don’t waste this opportunity. Join CleanConscience and your hotel can convert tons of waste into a meaningful, sustainable programme that will be embraced by employees and admired by guests.

♻️♻️♻️ Such great news ♻️♻️♻️
via CBS Los Angeles:
“LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Those little complimentary shampoo bottles provided in hotel rooms could soon be a thing of the past in California.
... State lawmakers are proposing a bill that would ban the single-use mini bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and lotion that are often found in hotel room bathrooms.
The proposed law would reportedly go into effect in 2023 and would encourage hotels to provide products in bulk dispensers, helping to cut down on plastic waste.
Assemblymember Ash Kalra of San Jose co-authored the bill, known as AB 1162, that would prevent vacation rentals from providing products in bottles smaller than four ounces.
Supports of the bill say the bottles add so much waste to the environment that implementing the ban would prevent hundreds of millions of single-use plastic waste and also cut back on the harmful production of plastic.
Santa Cruz was the first to ban the small bottles last year.”

We are very excited to announce that we are the new collection partners for The Recycled Candle Company
As we are already collecting partly used soap and toiletries from London hotels it made sense to add the scrap wax collections to our route.
This makes it more environmentally friendly and enables us as a charity to raise funding towards our operational costs.
... We charge a nominal fee to collect from Central London properties and the charges will be comparable to general waste collection costs.
Hopefully hotels, churches, cathedrals, etc will see the benefits of us collecting the scrap wax rather than it ending up in landfill or being incinerated.
Below is a link to the newsletter that went out from TRCC to announce the news:

We are delighted to offer this complementary recycling activity and look forward to being of service.
PS: Just a reminder that we can deal with almost any other “end-if-life” items from hotels and to always keep us in mind before “throwing it in the bin” 👌👌👌
Many thanks
