About Cleaver Dog Training

Cleaver Dog Training provides a variety of training services - 121 training, puppy and adult dog training classes, agility and behaviour consultations.

Cleaver Dog Training Description

Cleaver Dog Training is run by Vikki Cleaver who is an accredited trainer with the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers. The IMDT operate a strict code of ethics to ensure that all training is undertaken using positive force free methods.

Group classes take place outside at Amersham & Chiltern Rugby Club, Ash Grove, Weedon Lane, Amersham HP6 5QU. Groups will be keep small with no more than 4-6 dogs in a class. This venue provides a great training environment where dogs can be trained in a realistic environment unlike in a village hall which can be quite alien to dogs, but away from some of the usual distractions that would be found in a public park.

One to one consultations will either be held at the rugby club or at an alternative venue by agreement within a 10-15 mile radius of Great Missenden.

Vikki has a passion for dogs and has owned and trained various dogs throughout her life and competed at agility and showing including at Crufts. She currently has Millie, a 2 year old Field Spaniel who she shows and competes in rally and Obreedience competitions; and Hettie, a Border Terrier Cross, that she took on in April 2016 with no previous training and has already been placed in rally competitions and is being introduced to heelwork to music and agility and already has an extensive 70 + trick repertoire.

The crazy guys at Butternut Box have simulated being dogs being left in a hot car and had to get out after a few minutes as the heat was unbearable. Please please do not ever leave them without making adequate precautions. Cool coats etc are not enough, they need proper ventilation, shelter etc as well. As many of you know, my dogs are regularly with me in the van but I have spent an absolute fortune and have virtually everything possible to prevent them overheating. It is usually cooler in my van than anywhere else that does not have full air conditioning in place. I am happy to talk to anyone who needs to take their dogs with them and suggest some products. https://we.tl/t-W0CMLq9KDi?src=dnl

Today is definitely a ‘do nothing and eat frozen duck necks’ kind of day! Millie and Hettie chose to spend a few minutes outside but now back indoors again. Pixie 🧚‍♀️ and I have been doing our best to stay as far away from the heat as possible. Let see some pics of your dogs chilling today 🐶 🥵

DATES NOW FINALISED FOR CHILDREN'S SUMMER HOLIDAY TRAINING SESSIONS :-)

This will be at my venue in case anyone is interested in the valuable training. Note to self, need to get toilet finished soon or provide lots of Tena Ladies on entry 🤣🤣

Hhhhmmmm I think most of us are still a little way off distance handling a course like this! Very impressive 🐶😁

When your 7 year old daughter knows that if she chooses to do some dog training, mummy will totally overlook the fact that it is well after her bed time! 🤣🤣

POSTPONED until September. Apologies all

Less than a week to go. Please spread the word to anyone you know that is thinking of getting a dog.

Yours truly will be there all weekend with the dogs :-) Somehow I seem to have inadvertently landed myself a slot doing a demo in the main ring! Thought I was just doing informal, training sessions in a little ring on the perimeter but they want a main display too - PPPPPAAAAAANNNNNIIIIICCCC!

Less than 2 weeks to go and plans are well underway here. We look forward to seeing everyone soon.

This will be me this weekend! 40th on Friday and 50th on Saturday - hopefully I will find at least one person to humour me and let me bore them! (and no, I do not usually have that good a social life...but there is probably a reason for that....see below!)

This provides great advice on what to do if you suspect a dog is over heating in a car. As many of you know, I have a dog with separation anxiety and hyper attachment issues (meaning I cannot even leave her with anyone else) so cannot leave her at home so she is in the van with me pretty much wherever I go as she is happiest there. There are so many things on the market now to prevent your dog overheating ranging from vent locks that allow you to lock your slightly doors o...pen; cooling coats; gel mats for dogs to lie on and 12V air cooling units. I pretty much have everything available on the market so can offer advice on what may work for you to keep your dog cool this summer. Feel free to get in touch if you want any help. Enjoy the summer but be careful with your gorgeous dogs. https://www.pdsa.org.uk/…/puppies-dogs/ dogs-die-in-hot-cars…

“I am not going to use that dog trainer as I don’t like her unpainted breeze block walls” so no one ever and they certainly are not going to get the chance to say it now!
VERY long day decorating the new unit and it is really is starting to take shape. We now have half the walls painted; a fitted cloakroom; carpeted floor; half a fence; lots of kit; paddling pool and outdoor obstacle course; outside tap; lighting; coffee machine; fridge; and even got a wall round the previously very public public convenience!
It is taking longer than I hoped (as well as more money)but it is all going to be worth it in the end.

This is a great article explaining how and why dog’s learn and why it is so important to train sensitively. https://aniedireland.wordpress.com/…/no t-the-be-all-and-en…/

This post highlights why I like to see dogs in Y front harnesses such as the Perfect Fit ones which when fitted correctly ensure that the shoulder movement is not compromised. If you are interested in having a fitting, please get in touch and we can sort out a mutually convenient time.

This is the latest article to be added to the 'library' which is the pinned post at the top of the page and highlights some of the pitfalls about puppy farming practises. Please be extra careful when selecting your puppy as there are more of these dodgy sellers ready to take your money than you would imagine.
