Cllr. Stephanos Ioannou

About Cllr. Stephanos Ioannou

Elected as a Conservative Party councillor for Southgate ward, north London, on May 4th 2018.

Cllr. Stephanos Ioannou Description

I am delighted to have been selected to stand for the 2018 London local elections in Southgate ward for the Conservatives.

Southgate is a wonderful place to live, work and visit - it is an area I know well having lived locally all my life, attended primary school at
St. Andrews C of E, and I am honoured to have the opportunity to stand up for local people and businesses as their candidate.
I am looking forward to hitting the campaign trail, and making the case for local government here in Enfield.

I will be releasing my personal manifesto for the area in the coming weeks.

Time and time again Enfield Council have done a shoddy job on the overseeing of planning applications in our borough. My article for ConservativeHome puts this straight...
Enfield is blessed to have the highest percentage of greenbelt in our capital, but I’m worried about the distribution of: residential, commercial, office and public spaces in our borough too.
We must ensure that Enfield Council don’t just allowed housing developments to be rubber stamped to the detriment o...f aesthetics, heritage, and also put pressure on public services.
Of course I encourage building, but it has to be sensible, respectful, and maintain a good balance of all types of buildings.

Hi all,
Just a quick heads up...Some people have been asking about the state of Southgate tube station and the barriers put around the huts/shelters.
I haven’t been informed by the police that there was any restrictions imposed.
... However I did get a commitment from TFL that the station would get the necessary renovations it needs- and this was promised last year, that it would be completed “This financial year”. That year is still going, so I expect the huts will be renovated.
Time will tell....TFL are the least responsive group I’ve ever seen. Hoping an email response from them to clarify will come soon!

Hi all,
You may have realised that along High Street, a car recently collided into the wall of the apartment complex- Chandos Court. Upon doing an enquiry, I can confirm the Council have asked the management for the wall to be fixed as soon as next week.
Should therefore be fixed by next week.
... Remember... see anything you think needs sorting around Southgate, send me a direct message.

I have recently published an article on Greek Reporter, highlighting the current and future relationship Greeks can expect with the UK, once we leave the European Union in March this year.
Overall, I am optimistic that the community will continue to grow and that Greeks will remain a greatly valued and respected community, even when we do leave.
This article is in response to the growing concerns many residents in the constituency feel- that they are somewhat not guaranteed their rights once we do leave. I hope therefore this article puts those concerns to rest.

I have recently done an MEQ (Members Enquiry) to Enfield Council regarding the state of crime in the Southgate area, and particularly emphasising crime around Southgate Tube Station, which recently has seen a rise in muggings.
I have asked if the Council are willing to dedicate more Council funded police officers to our area, to deal with the issue, and reassure citizens.
I have also forwarded my concerns to the Metropolitan Police and Southgate Police Team.
... I'd also like to take the opportunity to share what the local police team are telling passers in the area:
1- "There have been a spate of robberies around the bus stops and area surrounding Southgate Underground Station. Please be vigilant and aware of your surroundings, if you are approached, try to get somewhere safe, inside the station, staff will help you."
2-"Officers will be on patrol in the area in an attempt to deter any further robberies from taking place. If you saw anything yesterday or see anything suspicious in this area, please call 101 or 999 if someone is in immediate danger."
3-"Following up on the earlier tweet about robberies around Southgate Underground station I can confirm that one male suspect was arrested in relation to these robberies."

Enfield Council should indeed be worried about the threat of legal action, from ordinary people such as Lucy, who have bared the consequences of the poorly designed Enfield Cycle Lanes.
Having to spend Christmas in crutches because of orcas on the cycle lanes, is a reason once again to push for the removal.
I am also worried about all other citizens in our borough who have had an accident with the orcas....
... In response I've done a Freedom of Information request to Enfield Council, asking: 'How many claims to date has there been, against Enfield Council, regarding the instalment of the cycle lanes'.
Looking forward to that response...

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year for 2019 with health, luck and happiness for the year ahead. Let’s make this year count.

Wishing everyone health, luck and happiness for the year ahead, but in all honesty... I'm struggling to see the positives for 2019 when March is literally killing the year off.

The UK has held on to its top spot in Forbes’ global rankings of the ‘Best Countries for Business’ for a second year running, beating off competition from Sweden and Hong Kong, with only three EU27 countries making it into the top 10. Countries were ranked across 15 categories from ‘property rights’ to ‘red tape’, with the UK the only country to rank in the top 30 for every single one. Even in the ‘political risk’ category, despite Brexit.

Absolutely shameful... How can you be earning a combined wage of approximately £125,000 and be 'proud' to be living in a house worth £750,000 at taxpayers expense??
When there are around 10,000 people on temporary accommodation in Harringey, it's hard to believe the person who preaches social justice is being a hypocrite themselves.

I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. Christmas is a time of the year where we reflect on past events in the year, and spend time with family and friends.
It’s also a time where we act on Jesus’s teaching of ‘love thy neighbour’, and I encourage everyone to act on this teaching and put kindness over harshness, especially when society may seem so divided.
It doesn’t go without mentioning those who will not be spending today with friends and family, and so we also give thanks to the emergency services who work 24/7 to keep us safe.

I'm very happy to tell residents that we have successfully overcome an initial ruling by Enfield Council planning committee, to stop the new build of the Walker School. Instead, the application will not be refused but instead deferred. See my letter below that assisted the case:

All Conservative Parliamentarians should now be very careful in how they vote tonight. This is the time we choose whether to pursue Brexit to a cliff, or if we choose to reflect and give an opportunity for some common sense to show we really are pragmatic. Two years have passed, and Parliamentarians need to bare in mind people’s minds have changed. Now we need politicians with morals, and politicians who well and truly stand up for the national interest.
Tonight’s decision will mark our party’s future for a generation.
