About Clockwise Credit Union

We are a fair, responsible and people focused credit union, providing a wide range of ethical financial products and services throughout Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Clockwise Credit Union Description

Clockwise is about joining together as a community to provide financial services to everyone no matter what their circumstances. How it works is very simple. Members deposit savings and we use those savings to lend to other members. We charge a competitive interest rate on these loans and any surplus we give back to our members as a dividend. So the members are the shareholders and they can be sure there are no fat cats profiting from their investments. Our members’ money is totally secure as we are regulated by the Financial Services Authority and are members of the financial services compensation scheme. And as if that wasn’t enough we provide free life insurance. You can’t say fairer than that.

Interest rates on our loans can be as low as 8. 7% for home owners and we are able to offer loans to people on benefits at 26. 8% . If you compare this with a door step lender or pay day loans you can be sure of huge savings even on the full 26. 8% rate. By allowing those residents in Melton that are currently surviving on benefits or those turned down by main stream banks a suitable alternative to high interest loans, more money is available to be spent in the community allowing it to flourish. On top of this when housing associations get involved and encourage their residents to join Clockwise, there is often a marked reduction in evictions and rent arrears.

Now we'll choose our words carefully here, but if you're planning a package holiday, your first choice isn't likely to be Loughborough!
But, believe it or not, the World's first ever package holiday was indeed to Leicestershire's second biggest town.
177 years ago, Mr Thomas Cook founded the first ever travel agent, the aptly named Thomas Cook UK in Leicester, United Kingdom. And the first trip he offered was travel and accommodation for a small group from Leicester to visit ...Loughborough.
OK, so maybe the subsequent trips he offered to Spain, Italy and beyond may have become slightly more popular. But next time you're browsing the millions of all-inclusive resorts Worldwide, just remember, all of that started with an all-inclusive trip to Loughborough in 1841. The original holiday hot-spot!

If you live in Humberstone, Leicester, United Kingdom and you want to go on a journey you may travel by car, you may catch the bus. But if you want to travel by train you need to trek off to Leicester Railway Station.
However this was not always the case! Did you know until 1953 Humberstone had its very own train station?
It was a small wooden station (pictured) where you could catch a steam train to (not so) far away places like Thurnby, Hallaton, Medbourne and onward to Gr...antham or Peterborough.
So where was it? Alas quite literally nothing remains. The track ran alongside the A47 (aka Uppingham Road) and the station sat where Layton Road meets Duxberry Road. They're all gone today, removed in the 1960's after goods trains stopped passing through.
But pictured is a photo of the precise spot where the station sat. Perhaps you recognize it? A few older folk may even remember it?
So next time you're waiting for a bus on Uppingham Rd in Humberstone, try to picture old steam trains running alongside the cars that pass you by.

Great service, friendly staff and a generally pleasant place to be. Clockwise have helped me out twice now, a loan and then a top-up of my original loan once I had paid off most of the first one. They can be a little old fashioned, and they keep shorter hours than most, but overall they're great.

They gave me credit when no one else would. Cheers Clockwise!!
