About Coderdojo North East
CoderDojo is an open source, volunteer led movement orientated around running free not-for-profit coding clubs for young people aged 6-17 years old. CoderDojo North East has coding clubs in Newcastle, Gateshead and Durham.
Coderdojo North East Description
CoderDojo NE helps individuals set up their own CoderDojo and networks all North East Dojos together with the aim of supporting young people and the future of the technology industry in the North East.
CoderDojo is an open source, volunteer led movement orientated around running free not-for-profit coding clubs and regular sessions for young people. Since CoderDojo is open source all Dojos are different and completely autonomous!
At Dojos, young people between 5 and 17 learn how to code, develop websites, apps, programs, games and more. Dojos are set up, run by and taught at by volunteers. In addition to learning to code, members meet like minded people, show off what they’ve been working on and so on. CoderDojo makes development and learning to code a fun, sociable, kick ass experience. CoderDojo also puts a strong emphasis on open source and free software, and has a strong network of members and volunteers globally. CoderDojo has just one rule: “Above All: Be Cool“, bullying, lying, wasting people’s time and so on is uncool.

CoderDojo Gateshead Badge Competition has been extended to 8th June (next dojo) to give you all a chance to submit in person (or to us info@coderdojogateshead.org.uk). Tobbie self-guiding robot is up for grabs...and also you'll be the new face for CDGateshead!
Following our note about Social Media, feel free to get in touch to use our social media agreement you can use with your coding ninjas that you agree between each other! Remember it's a responsibility of both parents and coding ninjas! :) They promise to try and stay safe, and you promise not to embarrass them too much ;)
Please don't forget that the Deadline for submissions for the Coderdojo Gateshead badge competition is beginning of June. :) amazing designs so far (not restricted to children, parents/adults can help too). Prize is Tobbie thr self guiding robot!

URGENT! One of our favourite coding ninjas is in need of a Carer/PA (paid). Previous experience working with those with physical disabilities is desirable but not essential.
If you, or know someone who can help please message us privately. Thanks!
Are you a budding web designer/developer? Are you a parent that wants to learn a little so that your young person doesn’t make you feel completely out of your depth?
This is a great resource to help you get to grips with CSS:
A quick reminder for everyone that there is no dojo at Centre for Life tomorrow. We’re having an Easter break to spend time with our families. See you all next month. 😊A quick reminder for everyone that there is no dojo at Centre for Life tomorrow. We’re having an Easter break to spend time with our families. See you all next month. 😊
Look at these! Aren't they amazing?! Well done CoderDojo Gateshead :)
There are so many great role models that our attendees can be inspired by and today I’d like to send our attention to Katie Bouman. She created the algorithm to capture an image of a black hole. Mind boggling and awesome. Take a look at her history and watch her 2017 TED talk on how to take a picture of a black hole.
