It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Hughes (A.K.A. Jack), who died peacefully at his home on Monday afternoon with his family at his bedside.
Jack was Collett & Sons’ longest serving employee with 57 years under his belt and he will be very sadly missed by both the Collett family and by all who work here. Jack’s funeral will take place on Friday 20th March, 13.30hrs at Mount Tabor Methodist church, followed by burial at Christchurch, Pellon.

This is a permanent and full time role and will involve supervising, scheduling, assigning and evaluating the work of mechanics, and other personnel as designated. The successful applicant will be responsible for planning, organising, supervising and coordinating the day-to-day running of the garage.
Typical Duties
• Assist in the diagnosis of problems and repair of vehicles as needed.... • Inspect vehicles, trailers and plant to MOT standard. • Service and repair vehicles or components using appropriate equipment and tools. • Maintain current product knowledge and attend training courses as required. • Ensure the planned shift workload is completed and/or handed over to next shift to facilitate ease of handover. • Ensure that necessary spare parts, materials and equipment are available or obtainable at short notice. • Liaison with Operations Team to ensure vehicles availability for scheduled inspections. • Any other reasonable duties as workload requires.
Qualifications/Experience
• City & Guilds or NVQ Qualified Technician. • The ability to organise work on own initiative and work under pressure. • Experience working with trailers, hydraulic systems and electrical systems. • Experience of diagnostic computers would be an advantage. • Ability to work as part of a team. • Having a C+E (Class 1) Licence would be preferred but not essential.
Personal Qualities
• Self-motivated and an effective team player. • Positive approach to management of change. • Effective communicator at all levels. • To contribute to the department’s strategic vision of the Company’s requirements.
Location
The role is based at our Halifax Depot, but flexibility and mobility is required to carry out the task.
Conditions
Anticipated normal working hours are 06.00 to 18.00 hours shifts, with one hour breaks, on a 4 on 4 off, rolling shift pattern. Overtime working is required by the demands of the business. 28 days holiday per year including Bank Holidays. Company contributions to the pension scheme is offered subject to conditions. Overnight subsistence costs are paid when away from base
