Tomorrow see’s us out on the river Soar and Loughborough canal for the Loughborough Soar teams of four.

Our monthly team meeting last night. Saw us all being blinded by Bobs new halo 😂

Team member Martin Mansfield fished a very patchy Moria canal and Sunday. With many in his section not weighing in he managed to put a little over 9lb of silvers on the scales.
Well done Martin

A windy and rainy day was in store for the 5th round of the browning Coventry winter league, with storm Freya due to arrive in the afternoon, which we should just miss. I draw A1 on canal view in Coventry city centre. Due to the conditions I decided to keep things simple, so I set-up a bread line at 5.5 m, a B&J line at 11m and a big fish line at 2 o'clock at 11m. I fed one small ball of crumb, two balls of joker and grey leam at 11m and a lobby, with a few dendra's and cast...ers on the big fish line. I started on the bread line catching decent size skimmers and small roach for 1.5 hrs, it then started to slow, so I topped up with a small ball of crumb, and went onto my big fish line. My float buried straight away, and 5 minutes later I had a big hybrid between 4-5lb's. I went straight back on the big fish line but had no further bites. I swapped back to my bread line where I had a few more roach on bread and pinkies. It started to tail off again so I put in 50ml of joker in grey leam 2m to the right of my bread line. I then went on my 11m line where I steadily caught small roach. The rest of the day consisted of rotating between the short and long line catching roach. At the end of the match I weighed in 12lb 8oz to win my section, but on my return to the venue I discovered I was 2nd overall. A hard day with the conditions, but well worth it in the end. Well done to Daz Lewis on the win.

Our Johnathan has been fishing the Derbyshire Angling Federation River Derwent Winter League.
In Johnathan’s words. A low and clear river with the prospect of bright sun later greeted the lads for the draw at the Bridge Inn which could make it fish hard With a minimum of a chub on each round I hoped for a favourable draw to maintain this on the last match... Having my customary last peg in the bag, out came peg 18 playing field which should give me a good chance of a chub or 2? - I hoped! Setting up Cadence 16' and stick plus, waggler and two tip rods I yelled the all in and started on the stick for a grayling, after an uneventful 25 minutes a bite way down the peg saw a 8 oz grayling in the net but no more bites! After an hour and earlier than I would normally like the far bank had to be tried. Still feeding the wag line a light bomb held nicely in the slight flow but no sign of anything after the small piece of meat. On with a chunk of flake, tight over and after a few minutes small pull and a chub was on, in the net it looked well over 3 but not sure it would make 4lb. The rest of the match proved uneventful despite flailing the wag, frequent looks on the tip and stick But I could not get another bite but would my 2 fish be enough? Jim Marcer won the match from Peg 6 in our section with 3 chub, (one 5.2) and a few grayling for 11.8, Jim Gregory had 2 chub and grayling from the platform for 10.3 with Dave Thornley 3rd with 15 grayling from peg 1 for 8.8. Congrats to each, On the League front my 3 section points against Jim Gregory's excellent section win saw us tied on 14 points but luckily my aggregate weight swung it in my favour by 7lbs. Congratulations Jim you really made it a close run series. Terry Moroz took third with 19 pts Andy Starkey 4th 20 and Steve Jenkins 5th on aggregate weight after a 3 way tie of 21 pts with Paul Simpson and Dave Thornley My Special thanks go to Neil Lawrence and James Robbins at CADENCE for their kind assistance in offering an excellent deal on Cadence reels for best chub (Jim Marcer 5.2), Barbel ( myself 8.1), perch (Jim Gregory 2.3) and overall grayling weight (Phil Hill 8.10) Thanks to all the lads who fished I hope you all can make it next year.
