NOTIFICATION OF ROAD CLOSURE I have received notice of a road closure 19th - 23 March. The notification states "Countess Cross Road" and the map indicates it will be just where the road turns right at the Countess Cross junction coming from Lawshalls Hill. It is for Anglian Water works.

Colne Engaine Parish Councillors testing out the new outdoor gym recently installed at the recreation ground. The gym equipment was bought with S106 funds as part of a suite of improvements to the parish recreation ground, including: fencing for the existing children’s play area to keep out dogs, car park improvements to delineate spaces and a new power supply to the lower field for the biannual village festival. The gym was one of a number of ideas proposed by villagers in response to the Parish Survey in 2016. We hope that the whole community enjoy the gym and it helps us all to keep fit and socialise whilst enjoying the beautiful views over the Colne valley.

Message from Essex Highways I am writing to make you aware that trial hole surveys are due to be carried out at Stone Bridge on the A1124 Halstead Road, Earls Colne from Sunday 20 October 2019. The results from these works will support engineers who are currently considering options to improve the structure, as it is currently in a weakened condition.
These investigations will involve excavations in the carriageway and will require a full road closure on Sunday 20 October be...tween the hours of 8am and 6pm, followed by a week of temporary two-way traffic lights Monday 21 October 2019 to Friday 25 October to manage traffic flows in the area while work continues.
Advanced warning notices are in place and diversions will be signed during the road closure on 20 October 2019.

Essex County Council need more foster carers to look after the most vulnerable children in our county. You do not need any specific qualifications to become a foster carer; just time, patience, a spare room and a commitment to improving children's lives.

In 1219 the name ‘Colne Engaine’ appears for the first time in a manuscript announcing the presentation of the first Rector to the church of Colne Engaine. This little book celebrates that double anniversary and answers questions you’ve always wondered about such as: ‘Where does the name Colne Engaine come from?’ and ‘What was life like in our village 800 years ago?’ as well as other questions you may not have asked including ‘How much of Essex was wooded in the Middle Ages?’ and ‘When were parishes formed?’ An essential book for all who live in Colne Engaine and all who visit this village at the centre of the universe! Just £6 a copy (and all profits to go to the church)! Available from the Five Bells and the Village Shop and via the internet at https://saintarnold.co.uk/shop/shop/colne -engaine-1219-book/
