The hotel looks lovely and the restaurant was nice but the gym and spa facilities really really let the place down. The whole place is in desperate need of a good clean.

A third of the lights in the pool were not working which meant it was, well, just a bit creepy in the late evening.

I thought the steam room was closed until i saw someone come out - the only lighting wee a handful of single LEDs.

The changing rooms were a right state. it was a struggle getting a locked that had a key (the place was empty) and reception were as unhelpful as they could possibly be - i ended up leaving my bag and belongings in the car.

I'll not be joining. for the amount it charges, I'd expect better.

Beautiful views, contemporary spacious rooms, gym, inside and outside pool as well as tennis courts. Fine dinning available in the restaurant, eat at the bar or order room service.

Staff are always very helpful

We arrived and staff were very helpful and friendly. They upgraded our room from a double to a double with a balcony and view. as they found our this was for an Anniversary, unfortunately the bathrooms really let these rooms down. We called down and complained about the state of the bathroom and the fact the water would not drain from shower over bath. we got offered a different room immediately and settled for one that still had an awful bathroom. If you're a clean freak - AVOID. This could be simply solved by updating, the room itself other than this was amazing.

The spa facilities also really let it down. we got kicked out a pool for a water class to take place, with loud music blaring. Very inconvenient and was not impressed so left shortly after this. Steam room and pool itself were lovely with great view, just a shame there was no way to enjoy this.

Combe Grove Hotel and Spa is one of the best dog-friendly hotels we have ever stayed at. I couldn't wait to write this review only 2 hours after we checked in :) We brought Henry our husky with us and we were welcomed by the lovely reception staff and generous dog-friendly kit for Henry which includes a massive dog bed, food and water bowls, toilet bags and towels for Henry only for £15 more! Me and my partner just finished using the gym in the club, the gym is well equipped with complimentary towels and water. The room itself is beautifully refurbished with a lovely and bright bathroom with shower. The view outside the room is very nice, overlooking down the hill. There are plenty of walks to go on with Henry here. I would definitely be coming back to Combe Grove with Henry!

This hotel was terrible and really a bad experience all around. The first impression is what counts and the thing that immediately hits you is the tiny little desk in the entrance hall which turns out to be the reception. There was one member of staff manning it and you had to play dodgems with people walking in and out of the hotel whilst trying to complete the form and check in. When you have checked in you get a blank card and nothing with your room number on. If you forget it you are screwed!!!!

The rooms were not that great and the bathmat looked like it had been a while since it had been cleaned. The black spots on it in particular meant I decided to not use it at all. There was limescale everywhere and the shower was less than sparkling. and had evidently only been washed down with water and not with any kind of chemical help - let alone something with limescale remover in it. The grouting needed redoing and in places looked just plain disgusting and the silicone needed replacing, redoing and sometimes it needed doing full stop.

You will also be met with disappointment when you try to order room service. Whilst the menu's and the brochures suggest that they offer room service and this 24hours a day you will quickly find out that this is not the case. You have to wait a long time for someone to finally pick up the phone before telling you that the menu's are old menus and that there is no room service at all. A quick note to them stating that the same menu's are also in their restaurant and bar is met with a resounding whatever and it must be a mistake and no they don't do any room service. No help or suggestion is given so you are left there wondering what to do.

The staff appeared totally disoriented and were uncoordinated in every shape or form - questions asked by one member of staff would be repeated by the next one entering the room and then again by the third one.

We were there for a conference and there was lunch served as well. Whilst the first lunch was unspectacular the second day they offered chicken which just tasted burnt throughout and there did not seem to be any seasoning to speak of and salt was lacking completely. The morning I was there I opted for the full english breakfast which appeared somewhat sparse but also the sausage reminded me more of a bar of soap than a sausage. Additionally the downstairs bathroom in the main hotel reception building had limescale around the tap so thick that you could not see the tap.

When checking out the hotel on the website I got all excited because it looks grand and like a nice english country hotel but when you get there its nothing like that. There is, in my eyes, a difference between old and well kept and just run down and not cared for. This hotel definitely fits into the latter stage. Some proper cleaning, a bit of touch up here and there would go a long way to making it a much better hotel. In a sentence not one part of my stay there was very enjoyable and often it was frustrating and just annoying. I would not come here again and can only advise people to look somewhere else.

RESTAURANT is below average of what we expected really. The soup was spicy (we knew that) but it kind of closed my apetite I think...or was the hake from
the second course which definitely was cooked too dry, and made me fill full up before I had enough food. My friend observed that the chef might be indian...it could be. Nothing wrong with that. It was tasty in some ways but definitely some wrong kind of tastes in other ways for the type of food we had. Sort of an indian of approach to british food really.

The desert was better though.
