Day 101 on her attempt to become the oldest person to sail round the world, solo and nonstop. 9615 NM from her starting point in Victoria, BC, Canada and in the Southern Ocean. Her blog today makes it sound as if she is on a weekend cruise! Amazing travels Jeanne Socrates, Fair Winds!
Sunrises, sunsets, dolphins and a race! We are headed for the Mexican town of Zihuatanejo to take part in the annual Sailfest - Zihuatanejo Regatta to help raise money to provide school for the children of the comminity. Should be a lot of fun!
Looks like we have a convoy! Leaving Manzanillo at sunrise this morning and heading to Zihuatanejo for the annual Sailfest charity regatta. We have at least two other yachts with us heading in the same direction. Next stop Isla Grande!
When we are on our own boat here in Mexico, we live completely off the grid from the moment we leave our home marina. Marinas are few are far between and those that exist, are generally very expensive. Regardless of that though, we love life at anchor. What is more, we get to see the best sunrises and sunsets! Yesterday we took a trip ashore in the port of Manzanillo, (one of the largest container ports on the Pacific West Coast) for groceries and to see if we could source so...me more solar panels. Another two to add to the existing six panels would reduce the times that we need to run the generator. So we are sitting in the Solarbay manager's office 6000 miles from Portsmouth and he has a little 'Spinnaker Tower' model on his desk. We explained to him that we look out to the real Spinnaker Tower from our Portsmouth Harbour office. What a small world!

Exam Crew Required - Commodore Yachting -
Need crew? We have five brand new, straight out of the box Competent Crew ready to go!
What a great couple of days, thanks Karen and Stuart.
Thank you very much for introducing me to the world of yachting. I had a great introduction on my Start Yachting weekend. I was very happy during my 5 day Competent Crew week as well. I've enjoyed the sailing so much that I'd love to come back for more weekend trips in the future. A big thank you to skippers Mark and Steve who've taught me the joys of sailing!
Thank you to Commodore Yachting for another fantastic charter on Melbourne Star for a New Years sailing to Cowes. Weather wasn't as good as last year but we had a fabulous time at the Folly Inn. See you again soon.
Passed today my competent crew course. So proud. It was an amazing experience, thank you Commodore Yachting! 5 stars! Our instructor was Peter. Super professional, lots of insights and great time! Thank you Peter!
Just got back from a week of amazing sailing doing Comp Crew. The instructor Richard was brilliant - endlessly patient as we (pun intended) learned the ropes and never angry when we got it wrong. He gave just the right amount of knowledge each day so we weren't overwhelmed and he gave us the opportunity to learn each job hands on - we were amazed when we set off straight for Cowes on the first day and were all steering the boat out of moorings and across the channel. We came away feeling confident and proud of our achievement. And we can definitely tie a bowline now!
I'd also like to mention Commodore especially for being so amazing with mine and my partner's food requests. I am dairy and gluten intolerant and my partner is veggie and we fully expected to fend for ourselves in the group meals but when Commodore did the shopping they bought gluten free pasta and cereal for me, almond milk, quorn and all number of gluten and dairy free treats. I brought lots of food with me and hardly needed any of it, I was so impressed with how accommodating they were.
100% would recommend, in fact we intend to do our Day Skipper with them again next year - can't wait.
Just finished the Day skipper combined theory and practical. 9 days of great instruction both on theory and practical. Came away with great new skills and confidence. Was a fun time thanks to the instructor Alex and our fellow crew mates. Highly recommended.
Did my Day Skipper and vhf online last year, had a great time in good company and excellent instructors.
