About Commonwealth Youth Climate Change Network

The Commonwealth Youth Climate Change Network (CYCN) was established in 2009 by 150 environmental youth leaders from across the Commonwealth who attended a youth summit held at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, United Kingdom. Under the supervision of the Commonwealth Youth Programme (CYP), the Network aims to build the capacity of Commonwealth youth and their organizations by improving their active role in addressing climate change and other environmental issues. The Network also links local and national actions implemented by its members across the Commonwealth so that they have a collective impact and positively affect change toward a sustainable future. Members of the Network believe that they can increase their influence on climate change and environmental policy in their respective countries and internationally, both in Commonwealth agenda and other global spaces such as the UNFCCC, UNCBD and UNCSD processes. The Network advocates in developing a clear and shared vision for the future of Commonwealth youth so that they can save the present and next generations from the impacts of climate change. The CYCN has recently lobbied policy makers at the 8th Commonwealth Youth Forum held in Fremantle, Australia, in October 2011; at the 17th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP17) held in Durban, South Africa, in November /December 2011, as well as at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio + 20) held in June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Network membership is open to both individuals and organizations across the Commonwealth.
