Community Sponsors Homes has been set up out of concern for the housing-led inequality between disabled and non-disabled people. To tackle this, we will provide wheelchair accessible homes for rent in the private rented sector (PRS). \\The problem\\There are 1. 2 million wheelchair users in the UK today, with 330, 000 homes needed to meet demand (Leonard Cheshire 2016). But sadly, there is a chronic and systematic deficiency of wheelchair accessible homes in the UK. \\Living in an unadapted home often means wheelchair users are limited to one or two rooms of the house. This isolation prevents them from caring for themselves and engaging in family, community or work life – resulting in a greater reliance on the state. \\The solution\\We believe wheelchair users who can afford to, and would like to, should be able to rent an accessible home. To tackle this, Community Sponsors Homes will launch a residential impact investment fund to purchase wheelchair accessible homes for rent. \\By increasing the availability of accessible homes, we will not only vastly improve the lives of wheelchair users and their families, but also create a new marketplace for the wheelchair accessible PRS. \\www. csh.org. uk
