About fostering

Why do children need foster care?

Children and young people come into care for many reasons. Some because of illness in the family, others because of difficulties in relating, some have experienced physical abuse, neglect, or sexual abuse. Coming into care will mean that they have also experienced loss & separation from their families.

These children will need a safe and nurturing home environment. Most for a short period of time, and some until they are able to live independently.

What is foster care?

Foster care is a way of providing a family life for children who cannot live with their own parents. Foster care is often used to provide temporary care while parents get help sorting out problems, or to help children or young people through a difficult period in their lives. Often children will return home once the problems that caused them to come into foster care have been resolved and it is clear that their parents are able to look after them safely. Others may stay in long-term foster care, some may be adopted, and others will move on to live independently.

Who can foster?

Connect Fostering are looking for people from all walks of life to provide sustitute homes for children and young people. You can be single or married, or co-habiting. It does not matter what your sexual orientation is.

FOSTER CARERS NEEDED

If you are aged between 25 and 60 we would like to hear from you. What is important is that you have a spare room and the time and willingness to devote your energies in bringing about positive outcomes for children or young people.
