In the land of endless fields of lavender, azure skies and hot sunshine, it's also ideal vineyard country.
Started back in 1924, the co-operative "Les Quatre Tours" is based in the small town of Venelles, just north of Aix-en-Provence (inland from Marseille) on the French Riviera.
A full range of wines are produced, but we've decided to list their palest-of-pale rosé: "Classique".
Mostly made from #Grenache & #Syrah grapes, plus a drop of #Cinsault & #CabernetSauvignon
Aromas of pomelo, grapefruit, green apple & some red fruit notes. Medium-full palate, definitely dry, with flavours of redcurrant, strawberry & grapefruit. Dry, mineral finish.

The vineyards are situated high in the hills of the Haute Vallée de l’Aude, between the fairy-tale castle at Carcassonne and the sparkling wine region of Limoux, heading south-west to the France/Spain border.
It's a very new wine... just bottled and shipped from the 2018 vintage.
A youthful, bright purple in the glass, it will benefit from decanting and allowing time to breathe to open up the fruit.
It really is a baby!

Chateau Argadens is a "Bordeaux Superieur" (technically, located in the "Entre-deux-Mers" appellation between the Rivers Garonne & Dordogne) that is owned by the Sichel family, who also run the "Cru Bourgeois" Ch. d' Angludet (Margaux) and an almost unknown place called Ch. Palmer (3rd Growth, Grand Cru Classé, Margaux ... sells for over £300 a bottle!)
The 2015 vintage was hailed as one of the best in Bordeaux and gave near perfect grape growing conditions.
The ūüć∑red wine made at ūüáęūüá∑ Argadens is a blend of:
63% #Merlot 32% #CabernetSauvignon & 5% #CabernetFranc
Don't worry, this is quite normal, as nearly all Bordeaux wines are made using these grape varieties (sometimes including #Malbec & #PetitVerdot in very small amounts).
It's very rare to come across wines made from just one grape type in this region, although, #Petrus (Pomerol) is a 100% #Merlot that will set you back thousands of pounds a bottle! And you thought the #Palmer was expensive?
The Argadens red has a sweet nose, berry fruits on the palate and the typical Bordeaux dry finish.
It's definitely affordable (to mere mortals) and ideal to drink with any roast red meats ‚̧ԳŹ

Today's white choice is another French classic from the northern end of #Burgundy

Chablis is all about soil, specifically the calcareous Kimmeridgian soil (limestone/clay/fossilised oyster shells) from which the wines of Chablis gain their mineral/flinty character.
To the north-east of the village of Chablis lie the seven "Grand Cru" rated vineyards. No, I'm not going to name them all. You can Google it!
Slightly less favoured vineyards are designated as "Premier Cru". These are well worth the extra money over the village Chablis wines.
Our tasting bottle is a "village" level wine from ūüáęūüá∑ Domaine de Vauroux that really shows good depth and concentration of flavour.ūüėÉ
It's got stone fruits, crunchy green apples, tingling acidity... NO OAK and, wait for it, it has to be made of 100% #chardonnay
Yes, just come and taste it in the shop, you will like it!
Try with oysters/shellfish/lobster, pork dishes, or just as a well-chilled, refreshing aperitif wine on a hot afternoon (I'm sure we'll get one soon!) ‚̧ԳŹ
