I have had a very pleasant experience here! I think it’s depends of you also when you organise something or trying to sort out your problem. Very quick and prompt service for taking my passport.

If film students would need to do a case study for a communist inspired film I would definitely recommend a tour of the Romanian Consulate - I can be the guide for this rare experience for only £4 per person, a small fraction of what a return trip to Romania would cost. As someone pointed out in a previous review, the furniture, walls, doors and other interior elements probably never spent a second in the Soviet world, however the staff/management successfully managed to turn everything into Iron Curtain paraphernalia. The older staff's attitudes (arrogance and ignorance) complete the picture, and so you have the perfect window into 80's eastern Europe. Some of the younger staff looks scared and expressionless. Also, If you find yourself easily offended this might not be the perfect tour for you. If you are not planning to visit neither the Embarrasy or the Consulate anytime soon, you could get a trailer by visiting the 2005-looking web page and navigating through the highly unorganised links while getting the same taste of outdatedness. The website was funded through European Funds, maybe because the government was not bothered to pay for it. Have fun ;)

Updated review 11.11.2017
The service has definitely improved, but still long way by the time we would be able to get passports like English people do.

Worst institution ever, Any way the same like all the institutions from Romania.

They treat you like you are a garbage, they rather do the tell of instead of helping.
Worst place ever.

If I could I would give -stars, I am trying to book an appoitment for a passport begining of april and the earlyest date is july.

This is a total joke.

I’ve had a blast time despite the bad reviews and expectations. Been late for 15 minutes and passed very quick. At the gate the guys have given quick view on where to go. Upstairs have waited literally 2 minutes and been served by a very polite guy and then a woman. The good spirit was all over the hall. I’ve spend 20 minutes in total. There was no queue and the service is pretty fast.

Helpful and understanding personnel when solving a complex problem with convoluted paperwork.
Yes, people do tend to get treated like sheep and without any respect, especially outside and before entering, but it reflects more the attitude of those queuing than the employees who are left with not much choice.
Once inside, the lack of maintenance of the building / furniture is shocking.
Still, I was pleasantly surprised by several employees trying hard to help people and solve problems.

Phone line is always busy. Different people giving me different answers. Their website is ridiculous too. They make everything so frustrating. They won't allow you to bring your own photos for passports as every other country does, but use the lowest quality camera that takes ages to take a photo. They expect toddlers to sit still for this which is impossible. Stayed for hours because of this. They don't let you bring your buggy inside so you're forced to keep your child from running around and touching things while waiting in a hot and stuffy room. There's an elevator, but of course no one is allowed to use it. The most backwards place I've ever been to.

Unbelievable ... I am speechless. People are treated like sheep. They should purge this institution. I swear the Zambia Embassy is better organised than our embassy. It's embarrassing.

User

Despite of all mean comments here i can tell that all went perfectly when i was there.
The phone is not working, so try the website, you can find everything that you need there.
Don t call , check their website !!
Very friendly, very polite an they do their jobs.
Tip: on website you can make an appointment for everything you need, that s why the phone is not working, everything is online now!

Communication is best via email. I had a good experience. Helps if you also speak their language I leven if only a little bit.

I think it is time the Romanian Passport & Visa section should be completely overhauled or certainly looked into regarding procedures and information given out to potential customers. Takes ages to talk to somebody on the phone, basically nobody answers the phone. Eventually I was told by somebody that I did not need an appointment, just go on a particular day for the issue I wanted to handle, to only find out on the correct day that I had been given, it was a waste of one complete day by going to London and I had all the correct paperwork. That same person on the phone ( In the UK or Romania ) made no reference on the phone to the fact that you cannot go to the Embassy itself, they have a Consular at 344 Kensington High St W14 8NS. Over a lot of years I have had a lot to do with Romania but there is still a long way to go and nothing seems to change, its like a lot of organisations in Romania ..... totally disorganised. Something needs to be looked at. One disgruntled person signing off and by looking at other reviews I am not the only one to have complaints. Lets hope somebody is listening. Be very careful out there everybody. NH.
