We booked a weekend for the Slimming World Oscars at the ICC and chose the Copthorne. From the minute we got there the staff were polite and helpful.

We checked in and we’re given a free upgrade. When we got to the room it was a really good size, very clean & tidy and had everything we needed.

The bed was AMAZING! I struggle to sleep in a strange bed and I often find hotel beds uncomfortable but have to say it’s two of the best night sleeps I’ve had in a long time. It was so comfortable.

The hotel is a 3/4 minute walk to the ICC / Symphony Hall, 8/10 mins from the Sea life centre & NIA. For bars / pubs etc it 5/10 mins from everything you could need. Also managed to spy a cheeky wagamama just around the corner.

Great location, great staff and great stay. Hopefully see you again in November for the next award ceremony.

I can’t believe all the negative reviews, the staff were amazingly friendly, very attentive, rooms clean, food good, I had breakfast in my room, wow, a massive breakfast, I’m staying again in July, I would have no hesitation in recommending a stay here

User

Although the lifts were slow.. 1 was broken the Staff , food and Murphys made it a good stay

The room was comfy , the only downside was the noise from the building site at 730 am

A great hotel in the centre of the city we were at a boxing do promoted by Grays promotions and it was a really great afternoon we had a lot of fun and we were looked after very well

Thank you

after reading the reviews after booking I was a bit sceptical about going as we booked it for a girly weekend away. But we actually had a really good time. the team on reception were amazing and helpful from start to finish. we booked the club rooms which could have been a bit better which is why I haven't given it 5 stars. you would expect a bit more luxury but rooms were clean and tidy.

breakfast was not too bad. the only down side was the eggs Benedict.. my poached eggs wasn't runny and they didn't give enough sauce on it but everything else was pretty good.

overall it is close to everything you need and we will definataly be back again soon

Reception and staff were very helpful. We had an issue with the room keycards not working same as with a few other guests . They changed the room for us and it was a better location. The downside is that it is a bit dated. Most definitely needs air conditioning fitting, hence only 4 stars as it was stifling in the room, but very clean and comfortable overall.

I would stay there again.

Again, some of the reviews are a bit tough. Yes it’s aged but very friendly staff, everything was clean and the hotel is positioned very well to access the local amenities. A five minute walk from The Arena and Broad Street.

User

We stay at hotel it look posh when u checked in but when u got up to the room it was basic we was disappointed when we got there and book in as we had to pay 12.00 parking and it was not mention on the booking .the town is not far to walk as we went out for Chinese and westherspoons

User

The hotel was nice but very old fashioned room was clean and tidy. The cooked breakfast in the morning was shocking it came out freezing cold and the bacon was rock hard we heard a lady say about the breakfast being cold the waitress said would you like me to microwave it for you lmao but the continental stuff was nice

User

I only give the hotel 3* due to the chaos in the dinning area. The bedrooms where nice and beds fab but the service at the bar and meal times, breakfast and dinner was dreadful. No organisation and it took ages to get food. Our dishes never came at once and one of our friends received her rice at the end of the meal.

User

Great location but the bed had a centre point, no matter where you slept you ended in the middle.

Other than that great hotel.

User

Clean and tidy hotel but It could do with a bit of a update especially with all the improvements being made to the surrounding area. Staff were all friendly and very helpful when I realised I’d forgotten my toothpaste.

User

Not that impressed. Stayed at Copthorne in Plymouth a few months ago and gave that five stars. In contrast my stay in Birmingham was a great disappointment. The room was clean, a bit of mold in the bathroom no great shakes there. Breakfast was good but not great, they ran out of butter sachets so put chunks in iced water. Spreading that was impossible. Staff were oblivious to my presence. The greatest disappointment was with the reception staff. The young lady who booked me in was not pleasant or friendly looked liked she had swallowed a fly the same young lady booked me out and possibly still had that fly in her mouth. Not a good reception or even asked if I enjoyed my stay. Security was an issue for me. There were lots of beggars in Birmingham. After being out for the night I arrived back at the hotel 1.30am walked off the street. No one on reception as security I could have been anybody into the lift 5th floor not seeing a soul.

User

Hotel was nice and staff friendly, car park wasn’t very good and the air con wasn’t working so we melted to the bed, other than that all good

User

Got the feeling this hotel will be moving buildings in a few years following the complete redevelopment of the area. I wouldn’t expect any investment in improving this hotel (although it’s needed). Room wasn’t the best having no air con, window didn’t open, had to make do with two fixed bed lamps and the bathroom light to light the entire room. Looks old and worn out.

On the positives - the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Everything was very clean.

User

Trying to get a copy of my invoice and they are just ignoring

Hotel is so tired and dated, no air con and no fans. Very loud next to road

So many other alternatives in Birmingham

User

This was a disaster stay from start to finish. On arrival was told rooms were not ready. When key was given we found we did not have the room we ordered. We ended up having to stay in the lowest grade room.

A refund was issued but was very disappointed as this was a special weekend. The heating in our room did not work. the television had no picture.

The hotel itself looks very tired with tape over carpets in hall (very remise of a budget butlins chalet to be honest)

Staff did not seem to care that problems had arisen and did very little to appease situation. Very lacking in customer service skills.

We left early the next day after a very cold mediocre breakfast.

Not a very happy experience

Please delete my card details ... another £250 out of my bank today for no apparent reason on top of the £430 already taken.

User

I was really pleased with my stay until I realised they'd charged £60 to my debit card which they had no right to take. It doesn't matter that they can stop it being taken as it's still pending - the hotel may not have the money yet but it's not in my account either and it'll take 3-5 working days to be released back into my account. I go on holiday on Sunday and need this money to pay for that - in addition it's likely that I'll go overdrawn in the meantime as other things also need to be paid for. The hotel staff were unable to do anything to help and I left visibly upset and close to tears, having to go home and tell my partner that we may not be able to go on our holiday. Ironically I was in Birmingham for a mental health first aid course, some advice for anyone experiencing mental health issues...don't stay here.
