We stayed at the hotel for a wedding, The good... The room was a very good size, 2 big mirrors, bathroom a good size, bath and shower, kettle, big comfy bed, was clean, big windows that let lots of light in but also big thick curtains that kept light out :-) for 2 people staying you got 2 room keys.

There is only a couple of small bad points..

For 2 people staying there was 1 flannel, only enough milk, sugar and teabags for 1 cup, wifi you had to pay for, breakfast was another £13 per person (we paid £75 for room) parking was £2 for the night.. wifi and parking shouldve come with the price of staying.. otherwise i enjoyed my stay, staff were all friendly and helpful and hall for wedding for absolutely stunning.. thank you

Was attending boxing event on30th june queue for bar was ridiculous over 40 min to get an over priced drink was nothing short of a joke food again had to queue but this was good food and fair price but you then had to eat outside as was not allowed to take it back to our seats staff seemed to be overwhelmed by the quantity of people one bar even ran out of beer

User

The reception staff were very friendly and the room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was fine. Unfortunately they are the only 3 good things to say about this hotel. The bar prices are so over priced. 2 baileys and a coffee. £32. 2 beers, 1J2o and a wine £24. 3 Jagermeister master, 2 vodka tonic and a coffee £62.

Not only that but we got charge £10 more than the receipt stated. Which the bar staff gave back.

The bar in the function room was terrible. Hardly any choice on spirits and wine.

This was for a charity event with over 200 people, so they would of made plenty of profit. Couldn't recommend this hotel to people

Stayed Friday night for a works do. The hotel is a little dated and could do with a little tlc but overall we found it to be very clean. The staff were all friendly, polite and helpful. The food was good, especially the breakfast. My wife said it's one of the most comfortable beds she's slept in!

The downside for me was the bar prices. £10.20 for a single vodka & diet coke and a small bottle of desperado was rather extortionate I feel. We ended up getting drinks from the shop and drinking in our room until we went out.

Other than that we found it a pleasant stay and would definitely use again.

Rooms are only adequate poor bathroom floor and finish around the bath was allocated a twin room when booked a double the receptionist said they were fully booked and it would be too difficult to change the parking is a nightmare as always full due to the golf club and functions but the shuttle to Gatwick air port is good and always on time

Review is regarding the event I attended which was the Boxing.

Brilliant venue, great atmosphere but not enough toilets. Queuing for a good 10-15 min for a pee and equally as long queues at the bar was hard work. Was a busy event and that could have been managed a bit better I feel. But the food was good and it was a great night.

User

My over night stay was for a works road show. Rooms are a little dated but clean, very comfy bed. Staff are extremely nice and very helpful.

User

Lovely room for an event but too few toilets and the small bar for so many people meant enormous queues. While the bartenders were good the waitresses were incredibly rude and couldn’t calculate change correctly. A better equipped bar would raise this to 4/5 stars

We stayed here again for the Lucy Rayner ball. Had a great night at the ball. The reception team on arrival were lovely and our room was fine.. very spacious and comfy.

Now the let downs.. a very run down dirty hotel which is such a shame. Floors and carpets everywhere are so dirty.

Bar staff are ripping customers off and charging a lot more than should be. When you have drunk customers the staff are taking advantage of this and giving back the wrong change or well over charging. This is not on.

It's a really shame. As this looks bad for all the hard work that made this great event that's done every year. And not sure if the hotel done the food on the night but as a hotel you should be embarrassed of the food that was served up..

Breakfast was good though .

So for this I would never recommend staying at this hotel. I only stay because of the Event.

The price we paid for parking, a night's stay and breakfast for 2 was great. Under £90 which included 2 weeks parking.

Unfortunately, that's one of the very few things I can compliment.

When we arrived to park the car, the car park was very full with cars parked on the side of kerbs. This doesn't give you much hope that your car is going to be safely parked somewhere while you're away.

When we got to reception, they couldn't find the booking and spent quite a long time looking at the paper work I had until finally they checked us in. They didn't communicate with us during this time and as you can imagine I was quite worried that there was a problem with the booking.

I was under the impression that there was a shuttle bus to take us to the airport during the day and when I asked about getting to the airport I was told to get a taxi which would be £13.50, which was a lot more than I was expecting to pay for the bus.

When we got outside there was a taxi waiting but as the receptionist had booked a taxi for us we had to wait for that to arrive, which was about 10 minutes.

We spent two weeks on holiday and when we got back to the Copthorne at 1am for our stay we were checked in very quickly. I cannot really comment on the member of staff as he didn't speak the whole time he was checking us in.

From what we'd seen of the outside of the hotel and the reception area, we were looking forward to seeing our room when we got back. The reception area was nicely decorated and looked very smart.

However, once we arrived upstairs, we were sadly disappointed. The hallways and rooms are very old fashioned and everything looks a bit sad and worn out. Despite that, everything was clean.

In the morning we went down to breakfast. We were told that we hadn't paid for breakfast, which we had. My partner went back to the room to collect our paper work to show that we had paid for breakfast. We took this to reception and despite showing that we had paid, we were still told that we had not paid for breakfast. Eventually someone else came over and said it was ok and that we could have breakfast. We received no apology for this and went to breakfast feeling quite frustrated.

The breakfast however was very nice.

Whilst checking out, we were asked if we were dropping our car key off when we actually needed to pick it up as we were going home. This and other communication with staff just gave the impression that staff weren't organised and didn't pay enough attention to what was going on. I didn't feel like we had great customer service at all during our stay.

Although the price was very good and the location was very convenient, I would be reluctant to stay here again.

Just returned home after staying at the Copthorne for £75.00 for just the 1 night. Checking in was no problem, quick and easy. On entering the room a terrible smell hit you so we had to open the windows. The bedroom was very old fashioned with a threadbare carpet and something brown splashed up the wall. The bed wasn't bad but you did roll in to the middle so you had to make an effort to stay either side. It was quite warm in the room but we couldn't open the windows because there was some sort of generator outside which kept me awake most of the night!

I personally didn't think the room was worth £75.00 and should have had breakfast included. I believe two stars is a fair score and after reading other comments I think now would be a good time for a make over!!

I booked this hotel as it was close to our wedding reception venue in East Grinstead. I wish I hadn't. We booked for 2 nights but we would be arriving quite late on the Saturday night after our wedding day which was fine we got booked in ok but when we got in the the hotel room it was soooo hot it was unbearable. There was no air conditioning in the room and having read some of the reviews on TripAdvisor I now realised I should have read them weeks before instead of on the night. The room was very dated. We awoke the next morning and realised we had not left a door hook out to provide us with breakfast in the morning. So I politely asked downstairs in the breakfast area if we could be sent up some breakfast to the room. This in itself was great as they brought up a whole tray of food for us within 30 minutes however the food was not good for the price we paid. At £27 for 2 breakfasts I expected far better from a 4 star hotel. By then we had had enough of the heat it was unbearable. So we decided to leave and go home. We spoke to the gentleman at reception and we explained our situation and that it was too hot to stay in the hotel and we received absolutely no comment from the staff member. No apology or an attempt to suggest a way to accomodate us. He just handed me a final bill to pay no offer of a partial refund or any way to say sorry for our bad experience. So we left with a serious bitter taste and ruined what was meant to be a nice few days together after our wedding day.

Edit: since writing this review the hotel have been in touch to apologise for the poor customer service we received and have kindly offered us a partial refund. We appreciate the response from them and I hope that they do improve their standards.

Went down to the gym for a sauna and was traumatised by my recurring dreams of dirty decrepit empty swimming pools. The pool was empty and black with filth. The door from the changing room to the pool was ajar ; health and safety environment officers would have had kittens. Just wanted a sauna but that was not working and full of junk. The lockers only took old pound coins that are out of circulation. Reception do not answer the phone either ? Never again !

We stayed hear 3rd of February before going on holiday as we had an early flight, it took us 10min just to find a parking space.

We decided to have a meal at the restaurant, even though we were the only people in the restaurant the service was so slow taking over half an hour just to get a drink. The food was all very nice when it arrived, however I ordered the vegetarian pie and was brought a meat pie. There was no apology the waitress just said what would you like me to do? To which I replied, bring me what I ordered, this took another 40min so everyone else had finished there meal, I was just given a pie on a small plate to replace the meat pie, I even had to ask for sauce, at least everyone got a laugh at this. The waitress did not speak very good English and didn't seem to care that I didn't think this was acceptable, so we all paid the full amount as there was no one else to complain to.

The rooms were clean and a decent size, the beds were very comfortable. Unfortunately we had not been told about the boxing event that was taking place at the hotel that evening. This meant that there was lots of noise and people coming and going all through the night drunk, banging on each other's doors and playing music, this was still going on when we left at 5am. One group of these people even managed to set the fire alarm off at midnight. When we checked out the hotel staff offered to give us a free transfer to the airport to make up for this, but as we had already arranged our own transfer it was of little use to us. That was the only offer of compensation we were given for this awful stay, I would definitely NOT recommend this hotel unless you are there to party, we would have had a better nights sleep in the car.

This is a terrible hotel.. I am just waking up to one terrible nights sleep..!where do I start.. the reception is soooo very very dated.. our room was smelly., there was no our conditioning.. the heating seemed to be on.. in July!! The fridge in the room was loud and kept us awake.. the room was last decorated in 1979.. the bed was ancient and incredibly squeaky... we had a drink last night in the bar.. the seating was limited and dated back to 1979.. this area was also so unwelcoming... I am just about to get up and feel really happy that I will never have to return...one plus was that the oriental receptionist was very good.. please don't come here...

Extremely bad customer services. Booked several rooms for my nephew's wedding year in advance, two rooms paid for at the time and rest was on refundable subject to cancellation prior to 24 hours. Cancelled the rest of the rooms 6 days before ( via phone and email) the date but still hotel has debited my card. Phoned hotel and transferred to 5 different people. I raised query but instead of accepting error on their part they blamed me that its my fault and i should be keeping tab and should have chased them. Person i have spoken to Monty who is reservation manager was extremely rude and unhelpful. Despite explaining him he refuse to send email to me confirming that there was error at there end as it was not his job and its night manager's job. Still do not understand what this thing to do with night manager. Despite all this i am still awaiting refund on my card. Looks like hotel's standard practice is to pocket the money if the person chase then refund them otherwise keep the money.

In respect to the hotel, don't know how they manage to get 4 stars is a big question, its not more than 2 star. Rooms were dirty and smelly . Over the weekend it was 31 degree temp and forgot about AC they didn't even provided fans to the room.

Think twice before staying with them and if you do please make sure you check your statement for unauthorized entries. .
