We were also given afternoon tea as a gift. It was my first visit to the copthorne and I was really impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of ALL the staff. John really helped to make our visit perfect. The afternoon tea (and I have sampled many) was absolutely delicious - I have tried afternoon teas previously that look more than amazing however the flavour and quality often disappoints - the copthorne have nailed it. Fab-u-lous food and outstanding staff. Well done.

We had afternoon tea as a birthday gift, with a gin and tonic and a beer. It was very tasty, waited a little while as was quite busy, waitress was very pleasant, friendly and efficient. Well worth a visit, would go again.

Was lovely atmosphere as we walked in. Afternoon Tea was really enjoyable.

Didn't get the girls name that looked after us. Slim build, ponytail & about 5ft.

She made our afternoon, nothing was a bother.

Would like to come again.....

Really outstanding! Room was excellent, comfy beds, nice view etc. Really helpful friendly staff. Food in the restaurant was about the best cheese burger and chips I’ve ever had, and the beer was really tasty too! The room service for breakfast for an additional £3 was first class. We stayed for one night, but will definitely book again.

On Saturday 10th March 2018 my husband and I got married at the Copthorne....... What a fantastic day and evening we had!! I can't thank the hotel enough! My wedding coordinator was Helen who just sorted everything out for us and made everything so easy! Everything about the day was amazing and we can't thank the hotel enough. Food was outstanding as was the staff who made, helped, served, cleared away after us, you are a credit to the Copthorne. Even the following day staff ask us if we had enjoyed our day!! If there are any brides to be out there that are looking for a wedding venue I would definitely recommend the Copthorne!

I booked a twin room for myself and my teenage daughter and we both had a lovely stay. Staff were friendly and helpful, calling taxis for us and recommending local places to eat (the restaurant was closed for a private function). The room was bright and airy with a fantastic river view and the beds were very comfortable. We would certainly recommend staying here and will hopefully return soon.

Booked afternoon tea for a party of 34 guests to celebrate my parents diamond wedding. What a great time we had, we were allocated a private suite that was perfect for us. We all enjoyed a cocktail before being efficiently served our afternoon tea. Food was great and plenty tea or coffee for all. The best thing was we were not hassled by staff or hurried out. Thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon and would recommend a visit.

Attended a family event for New Year's Eve, we didn't stay in a room but had a great night, the entertainment was great, kept the kids entertained well, the food buffet was lovely, lots of choice, especially for the kids, the staff were very good and couldn't go more for anyone, lovely reception area, the only one downside I would say was the toilets in the ladies, as not all of the ladies doors shut properly, but all in all a really good night

The Copthorne Tara is situated overlooking the River Tyne with all rooms offering a water view. Rooms are a good size but have probably seen better days. The furniture is made of cheap wood and needs updating to give a more modern and clean feel. Toiletries and tea/coffee facilities are supplied along with free wifi. Beds are comfortable but rooms cold and hard to heat, thankfully there was a small oil heater in my room to assist and give a boost. Although their website doesn’t mention it there is a small gym with enough equipment to help maintain your fitness while away from home. Although a buffet breakfast, food is fresh, clean and hot. Staff are friendly and helpful.

We were given an afternoon tea as a present, meet and greet was lovely at reception.

Directed to the restaurant via the bar, the barman took us to the restaurant and helped choose a good table overlooking the river. Lovely.

The service and choices given as part of our afternoon tea were well explained and staff have that little bit extra chitchat a nice touch.

Everything was explained brilliantly and the customer service was excellent.

Afternoon tea and drinks served, everything was nice.

We noticed that the sandwiches didn't have a lot of flavour, a bit bland!

This was the only criticism

We did have a lovely afternoon at the copthorne?

The complementary parking was appreciated too.

Thanks

Booked a riverside suite for the evening of Saturday, 17 March 2018. Our plans were to enjoy the hotel with all its facilities and dine in the restaurant in the evening. When booking we telephoned and the lady advised us to book online and reserve dinner in person at check-in. When we checked in we were told by the receptionist (who was miserable) that the restaurant was closed as a wedding was taking place. We were very disappointed and the receptionist said she would speak to her manager and come back to us, she didn’t. Obviously the weather on this evening has been quoted as ‘beast from the east’ and we had to leave the hotel to dine elsewhere in atrocious weather. When checking out we mentioned our disappointment to a different receptionist and we received a whole £9 to park our car for free. When planning a night away some people really want to spend their money at your facilities, it would be advantageous to inform guests what you have available or not on the day/night of booking. On recommendation we chose your hotel but obviously we feel we made the wrong choice.

A party of four arrived to celebrate a birthday. We were a little early for our 3pm booking and were asked to wait in lounge until a table was available. Twenty five minutes later my husband went to see what was happening, needless to say a table was quickly made available. Pleasant young waitress who checked that no one had any allergies or special needs food wise. Not impressed with the afternoon tea, bland sandwiches, half reasonable scones, unappealing cake selection, the only highlights were the G & T's and coffee. Disappointed is an understatement.

My husband and I went to have a special meal tonight as it was coming up to my 70 th birthday, we had a voucher for a steak meal and wine

I’d had to phone them as we were delayed but the staff were very good about it . The meal came , looked really nice until you tried to eat it , the steak was really tough , no taste to the meat at all , for this to be a special occasion it was so disappointing to say the least

When asked if we had enjoyed the meal , the waitress looked at the fall a meal that was still on the plate , apologies were said and offered us a free dessert and coffee but we decided not to have it , the meal and atmosphere was spoilt

I would not recommend anyone to go for a meal there from a very disappointed customer
