The hotel is in an ideal location a few minutes walk from the Hoe and shopping. The food was excellent with alternative options to the buffet breakfast if required. Plenty of English and Continental food available for breakfast. The evening meal was just as good. The hotel staff were delightful as well as very knowledgeable and very polite. I would highly recommend this hotel. I stayed in a Club rom that was spacious and comfortable. A very clean and well presented bathroom with all the essentials. Tea and coffee facilities a safe and soft drinks and water fridge. Well done Copthorne. I will have no hesitation in booking this hotel again. I will look for the Copthorne brand in other locations.

Superb hotel, best in Plymouth and I’ve have stayed in them all over the last 22 years but now the Copthorne is the hotel if choice. Excellent food, wonderful staff, could not ask for more

Received a £15 voucher for dinner, what a great surprise after a 5 and a half journey from Leeds, the room is immaculate, the reception and the restaurant staff in particular made me feel very welcome. Excellent!

We stayed here as we coming t,o see a show at the Pavillion it was close to train station & town. We were on 4th floor, room was quiet and clean with views across Plymouth towards the hoe, plenty of choice for breakfast and the maid who attended the room was very pleasant and enquired if we had adequate complimentary tea, coffee etc. It was nice to find complementary shampoo, conditioner, soap, body wash & moisturiser waiting in the bathroom, which was a nice touch, even down to the shower cap, as last hotel we stayed in did not supply any of these items. Did think the price of evening meals were a little on the high side, but would certainly stay again.

Very accommodating and helpful as our first booking had to be cancelled due to weather conditions and we couldn't travel. I casually mentioned it would be my partners birthday and was surprised to see the room with balloons and a birthday card from the staff which was nice. All round a lovely room. Downside was paying for a parking space in the hotel car park and on our return from an evening out told "sorry, no spaces left". Copthorne, please don't double book parking spaces. It's not nice! That said it is my only complaint.

This is quite a dated hotel but the staff are very friendly and helpful and the hotel is clean and tidy with good sized rooms with everything you would need for a comfortable stay. The bar is ok and the food was good in the restaurant but not a lot of choice. There was a lot to choose from for breakfast with the hotel offering a traditional fully cooked English breakfast, fresh fruit, cereals and a continental breakfast. You also have a choice of tea, coffee or fruit juice. All in all the hotel is not a bad place to stay, it's in the centre of Plymouth so the views aren't the greatest but to be honest you're not going to live there! I would be happy to stay again.

Stayed here last night whilst dropping son at university which is just round the corner. Hotel was easy to find. Receptionist was really helpful and very friendly. We had a club room which was clean and comfortable. Complimentary bathrobes which were huge but very snugly. Room was warm. We were looking over a dual carriagesway but hotel was quiet and peaceful. Nice little bar and friendly, helpful bar staff. Good breakfast but not enough staff to serve the number of people. Parking under the hotel cost £7.50 which wasn't in the info I read beforehand but cheaper than nearby public parking. Drakes circus close by. Easy walk to pubs / restaurents.

Only downside was the drunk man asleep in the back doorway of hotel and several lying around the park area next door- think this must be because of the Salvation Army building opposite tho.

Polite friendly staff who are very helpful, at check in I found out that the room had not been for by our company, this was quickly rectified with a simple phone call. The room was a standard one but was spacious and comfortable, bathroom plenty big enough and the shower was the best I'd had in a hotel for many year. All in all Fantastic nights sleep woke up really chilled, would strongly recommend staying here, I would again.

Lovely hotel, clean and has everything you need in the rooms, staff very friendly and breakfast has got to be one or the best ive had at a hotel (even got asked if i want fresh hash browns made) only reason it had a 4 is because they forgot my room service order sob x

Rooms could do with updating. Staff in the restaurant look so sad and never smile. Ordered omelette for breakfast took nearly a half hour to get and it was not the greatest omelette. Had paid for parking on arrival went out for the day after first nights stay to come back to find that they had no parking spaces in the car park had to park at the front of the hotel. Counted in their overflow car park 15 extra cars. Have stayed in better hotels in Plymouth.

Found at the top of Armada Way near the University and train station it is very convenient for the shopping but less so for the seafront and historic Barbican. The service and facilities are fine, as is the decor if a little tired. The place is perfectly adequate and comfortable even though it has a kind of "slightly past its best" feeling about it. I will be going to Plymouth again in December when I will be staying in the Holiday Inn.

Everybody will say the decor is a bit dated which it is, but we found the food and service excellent. We had a light lunch in the bar area and the waitress was extremely helpful, the coffee tasted so good we didn't need sugar and we loved the home baked biscuits that accompanied it. We will certainly go there again.

We Stayed at this hotel last night and, whilst the staff were friendly and pleasant, this was outweighed by the following:

After travelling for over 6 hours we arrived to find our room was not ready. We were given a voucher for a complimentary drink and asked to wait in the bar.

Half an hour later we were given our room key and informed that parking would cost us £7.50 (this charge had not been mentioned when we booked).

On entering the room we were met with a terrible smell of body odour. We had no time to complain about this as we were expected at a family gathering within the hour and needed to shower and get ready. We decided to open the windows (only one would open) and turn on the ceiling fan. We sprayed my husband's expensive aftershave near the fan in an effort to block out the fowl smell.

The following morning when we went to breakfast the member of staff who greeted us asked if we would like to pay for breakfast. We explained that we had paid for breakfast and he had to contact reception to check this as we were not on his list. After checking he took us through to the restaurant but there was not a table for 4 ready so, once again, we were asked to sit in the bar area and wait while our table was prepared. We were eventually seated and had our breakfast - which was very good. However, the waitress kept clearing things from our table before everyone was finished eating and we all felt that we were in the way and were being hurried. This hotel definitely didn't meet my expectations and I certainly wouldn't recommend it to others.

Car park at the hotel is not big enough, and you pay for your space £7.40 a day and if you take your car out you will lose your space to someone else and need to look around for another space if you're lucky to find one.Hotel room very small overlooking Sainsbury's car park we were on the 3rd floor, bathroom door was very squeaky and load needed some WD40 put on the hinges, the fridge was also noisy when the motor cut in load at night .The fire alarm light was irritating as it flashed on and off needs to be moved to the other side of main light. The noise from the food market car park went on till 3.30am car doors banging and kids shouting and running about.even in the hotel the bedroom doors kept banging and this morning when getting ready to leave our room, had to be out by 12 midday the cleaner knocked on the door at 9.50am and asked us if we were going as he needed to clean the room and we had paid up till 12 pm.I would never recommend this hotel to anyone and I think it's a 2* definitely not a 4*. The worst and most expensive place I've ever stayed. Was in an upgraded rooms and all I heard from 11/2 in the morning was swearing screaming and people arguing. Absolutely appalling not one single member of staff is a bit helpful. To you it all up we were quoted on the phone the price for one night was £220 for a twin and single as was 3 of us after travelling On a 6 hour journey with no sleep to arrive to be told the price will be £472.50 when we got here for one night so so bad yet on line a room can be purchased at £125 I'm just waiting on a manger to get back to me Monday as even though they took our money cannot do anything till Monday will let you know the outcome

Firstly the staff were pleasant and apologised a lot.

I had a terrible nights sleep even after moving rooms, I spoke to reception at 21:30 who advised me that building works would be ongoing until after midnight hopefully finished by 01:00. I stated that this wasn't acceptable as I had work in the morning and was moved to the fourth floor where I could still hear the banging etc, then I was awoken by the fire alarm and had to wait in the street (possibly unavoidable) for an hour meaning I missed breakfast as I was late.

Other issues:

•I was informed after paying for parking that spaces were limited and if I went out I'd probably not have a space to come back to even though I'd payed for overnight parking.

•The wifi is terrible which also limited to channels available but told that is just the way it is while renovations are ongoing (payed for room with wifi and this wasn't explained when I booked).

•very noisy rooms buses/coaches turning and or loading outside my window also pedestrians could be heard from the room with the windows shut as student accommodation was very close.

•I turned my fridge off as it was very noisy also.

The very least you expect is a good nights sleep and a decent breakfast and I got neither.
