Our Bowman 44 rebuild is nearing completion. We've already sprayed much of the deck gloss and fitted quite a lot of deck gear but now it's time for the cockpit and coachroof gloss which is the most awkward spraying of the whole job.

Recent photo of the 44ft incisor in the Caribbean when owners Derek and Sandra opted to go cruising, just the two of them, rather than race in the RORC 600. They’ve completed six ARC transatlantics in this boat.
We launched Incisor 21 years ago but my connection with parts of it goes back to 1986 when I raced the Newport/Bermuda race on the Everitt designed IOR 43 Backlash which Derek and Sandra then bought in the early 90s and, after a few seasons, decided to modernise with... a new hull but keeping the deck and rig. At the time I’d just demolished the rating system with Independent Bear and was designing a lot of boats so got the job.
44ft was as big as we felt we could go using the donor boats deck without adding stupid amounts to stretch it. Giovanni at SP did the engineering spec and Mark Downer did the chopping and new building. The boat has never ever had any structural problems.
The design brief stipulated shallow enough draft to cross the floating bridge chains at low tide and also stowage for ten fee paying crews suitcases.
The original rig and rudder were replaced with modern versions a few years ago but the keel is still the L shaped bulb one from 1998.

Chris Schrams's 38ft Double Edge, formerly Gloves Off and Rockall IV. Chris races double handed from Holland. I designed this boat nearly 20 years ago to be custom built in foam/epoxy/glass/kevlar, but was so busy that winter building a 41 and the original 25 that I subcontracted this build to Vision Yachts who did a great job. We then did a major update including tweaking the shape in 2008.

Corby 33 Mrs Freckles (formerly No Retreat) relaunched after a substantial refit by us in Cowes. Mrs Freckles is a Swedish team who previously owned a Farr Mumm 30 but will race this year in the Solent.

Kym & Heather Leatt, who recently sold their 36, have now bought the red 29 from France and will race in Ramsgate. They are the 27th owners to have bought more than one of my designs. Ironically, the previous owner of their 36, Adam Gosling, owned a 29 before buying the 36.

My original 36 design, recently Kylla but formerly Yes! and Mustang Sally has just been bought by John Barrett and will be his latest ‘Stiletto’.
Amazingly this will be the boats 25th season and she is still as sound as she was new. When we refitted her for Adam Gosling there were no structural repairs to do at all, not even a damp bit of plywood furniture, proving that the male moulded vacuumed epoxy boats we built in the 90s are not only lighter and stiffer than modern production racing boats, they’re going to outlast them as well.
Good luck to John, Paul and the rest of the crew, we’ve been chatting for years and its great to finally get them into Club Corby!
