This week it has been announced that:
Rick Rescorla , a Cornishman from Hayle, and one of the heroes of 9/11 is to be honoured.
Both Rick Rescorla together with the crew of the Solomon Browne (the Penless Lifeboat on which all hands were lost) will be honoured by having inter-city trains named after them.

GENEALOGY NEVER FORGETS:
Laurence Binyon composed his poem For the Fallen whilst sitting on a Cornish cliff-top looking out to sea in mid-September 1914, a few weeks after the outbreak of WWI. He said the 4th verse (below) came to him first and is best remembered.

Well, I am pleased to say that we have been very busy for the past few months delving into the lives of some very interesting and exciting ancestors. Such wonderful, colourful characters. It has just been magical lately. It has been so intense I seem to have missed our glorious summer.
However, I did take a day out to visit our long awaited Kresen Kernow (Cornish for Cornwall Centre) which will open (so the builders tell us....) in Summer 2019. Kresen Kernow will be appro...ximately 2 miles from where Cornish Ancestry is located - so really close! With 14 miles of archive shelving there will be plenty documents to explore!.
I have attached some photos of inside and outside the building taken on my tour, along with a "before" photo.
As can be seen, great care has been taken to preserve many of the features of the old Redruth Brewery founded in 1742 - including the original chimney which rises up through the building and has been photographed through a viewing "skylight". Granite walls/floors have all been preserved along with some of the original pillars. It will be truly stunning when finished. Can't wait!

Just to remind everyone that the Cornwall Record Office will be closed from the autumn 2018 and the Cornish Studies Library will be closed from 10 September 2018 in order for them to prepare for the move to their new premises in Redruth (approx. 2.5 miles from Cornish Ancestry Ltd).
In 2019 their new premises will open as Kresen Kernow (Cornish Centre) on the site of the historic Redruth Brewery building at the heart of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site.
The Redruth ...Brewery site had been used as a brewery as far back as 1742 when it was founded by William Davey and operated right up until 2004 when the company went into liquidation.
Thanks to a £1.7m ERDF funding grant together with £600,00 from the owners of the site a new lease of life will be breathed into the old Redruth Brewery.
Housed within Kresen Kernow will be the world's largest collection of manuscripts, books and documents related to Cornwall as well as the Cornwall Record Office, the Cornish Studies Library and the Cornwall and Scilly Historic Environment Record.
We can't wait!!
