About Cornish Arms

Rick Stein and Jill Stein are very happy tenants of The Cornish Arms, in the village of St Merryn, just outside of Padstow.

Cornish Arms Description

Based on Rick’s famous recipes, the pub offers a simple British pub menu, with dishes like real beef burgers, mussels and chips and scampi in the basket.

The pub also serves some of St Austell Brewery’s best ales like Tribute, Proper Job and Trelawny, plus a great selection of wines are available by the bottle and glass.

As a way of giving back to the surrounding area, we're looking to host community coffee mornings in support of local causes this autumn and winter. We'll provide complimentary coffee and cake, the charity can then either charge people to come along or ask for donations on the day.

An oldie, but a very goodie. When did you last order scampi in a basket with chips and tartare sauce?

We love local produce! These beautiful gherkins, that you can enjoy in our hamburger, were grown just two miles away at Padstow Kitchen Garden! Thanks Ross.

We’ve visited here many times before and always have a fantastic time. Turned up at 5, straight from Harlyn beach with a very wet and sandy dog, which wasn’t any problem. Staff are absolutely fantastic, they really make our visit special for us. The food was lovely as well, as it has been every time we visit.

User

We arrived early to avoid disappointment and we certainly weren't the staff were very friendly and welcoming and the food was excellent some people complain about a lack of choice but we found adequate choices and maybe a few things perfectly done are better than than many things done ok, the only improvement for me would be possibly a section segregated for people without pets

User

We arrived earlier than planned, no problem! Lovely coffee while we waited for a reasonable time to eat! Service was excellent, food was awesome, in particular the half pint of prawns and the mussels went down well! #Perfectpub!

User

The second year we have visited the area and it wouldn't be complete without a lunch at least here! Braith is as usual being spoilt by the staff with his own water bowl and biscuits! Oh yes the food is good too!

User

Super venue, great beer and superb Gin & Tonics, perfect food and service, perfect end to another perfect day in Cornwall, last day will miss this place.

User

Once again we really enjoyed our time at the Cornish Arms. Food service excellent and always a warm welcome. The lad that looked after us was brilliant can't remember his name but tall and broad with strawberry blond short hair.It is a busy pub so expect to wait but its well worth a visit.

User

My mum and I had lunch here today, we arrived too early for the restaurant to be open but were shown to a seat in the bar until it was, by a cheerful and courteous barman. Apparently there was some kind of problem with the pumps resulting in draught beer and soft drinks being temporarily unavailable but there were plenty of alternatives. When we went into the restaurant we both had the moules frites, delicious and plenty of it.

Tasty food, prompt service, helpful and friendly staff. Would not hesitate to come again or recommend xx

User

Lovely pub, very dog friendly and the people who served us were really friendly. Food came quickly and was perfectly cooked, we had lobster and chips. They even came outside with water for our two dogs.

Thanks for a great meal and lovely atmosphere:)

User

Have visited this place a few times now & always been satisfied - we went there yesterday lunch time and once again we were pleased. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful- the food was excellent as always- we’ve previously visited when we’ve had our dog with us, they always made us welcome- I can’t fault this place at all, and next time we are in Cornwall will definitely visit again.

User

Had a lovely evening meal here, the staff were excellent and so friendly, Especially the bar maid Morgan! We did have to wait an hour for a table but was worth it, I will definitely book a table next time and will recommend! I had no complaints whatsoever about the food or service it was all very good.

User

The menu seems to have Shrunk a little

No Lamb Curry or Trelawny sausages on offer we noticed

Found it a little Stuffy and could have done with a Whiff of Fresh air

Overall we really enjoyed it and look forward to seeing Boxer on our next visit in July

He had a night off ,,,,,,,,,!,,,,,

Friendly front of house staff and service was friendly and prompt

User

Really relaxed place with great staff. Dog and child friendly. Lovely atmosphere. Not terribly exciting menu with only 1 special which was on the menu. Food tasted great - the prawns were delicious X

User

Lovely lunch as usual but and it’s a BIG but - the chips have changed nice but NO WHERE NEAR as nice as they used to be !!! We live locally and come here regularly, always have the chips because they were so good! Very artisan and crispy, not the pre packed fries we had today!! Bring back the old ones please!!!!!

User

We were so disappointed on Sunday, the Cornish Arms has been our special place to eat on our holidays for a number of years. A long wait for a table is expected but then the menu was small and the service slow. You were clearly short staffed and struggling. Other customers were asked to wait up to an hour and a half when we could clearly see lots of empty tables, empty for some while. We normally top and tail our holiday with a visit, not this year.

User

Two sides to this.

First the food was very good, but secondly they forgot our order, and three tables around us ( who came in after us and after we had ordered) got their food before us. Only then did the guy in charge of our section noticed. When we asked how long it would be, and after a trip to the kitchen, it came within 5 mins - which seemed either rushed or convenient.

So food good, but we waited over on hour for it.

They complimented the pint and glass of vino.

User

Busy pub, went for 25th wedding anniversary. Starter of choice not available (Cullen skink) and on a small menu I found that surprising.. My steak came cold and was returned.. Had to ask 3 times for water and cutlery. When my second steak came it was very tasty, but I am surprised cold one was allowed out of the kitchen... It shouldn't have got past quality control.. The staff were apologetic and discount given but not what I'd hoped for.. A family eating at staggered times... It may also be better if one waiter/waitress served set tables as everyone seemed to be running everywhere..

User

We had lunch today and arrived around 12.30 so no problem getting a table. The food ordered came quickly however we were really disappointed.I ordered Hake and was not seasoned at all along with the mushy peas which I can make at home with more flavour.I also wanted chips freshly made however the fries served seemed as though they were frozen mass produced in a factory! My husband had a cod curry and again was really bland.Sorry to say it was overpriced and we will not be back.

User

Not a brilliant service... Found a table outside because we had a dog. We salivated over the menu, all chose lobster bar one (there were six of us) went to the bar to be told no lobster, no eating at the front of the pub's outside area only to the side. We could have a seat inside but we'd need to order immediately as they were stopping taking orders at 7:30pm and we'd likely be waiting an hour. So feeling a bit fed up with all the obstacles we left and went to the farmers Arms in St Merryn. And guess what... The boss was in so we thought the service would be on its toes not on its ar*e.

User

Absolutely terrible - 6 of us went for dinner, a long wait for the table (which was expected as you can not book) once seated, very slow/poor service, had to ask multiple times for water and cutlery, drinks ordered but never turned up.

Food was ok, I ordered the vegetarian pie - it was horrible, the only thing I ate on the plate was the 3 sprigs of broccoli!!

Overall very disappointing, will not be returning!!
