Cornish Barbarians Pilot Gig Club

About Cornish Barbarians Pilot Gig Club

The first of its kind in the sport of Cornish Pilot Gig Rowing, Cornish Barbarians Pilot Gig Club (CBGC) is a touring traditional fixed-seat rowing organisation with proud Cornish roots but no clubhouse, home or harbour to call its own. Inspired by the famous Barbarian F. C Rugby Club, participation in CBGC organised rows is by invitation only. Cornish Barbarian rowers are drawn from individual rowing clubs across the length and breadth of Cornwall, as well as the wider national gig rowing community. By organising our own exhibition rows and events – and participating in established regattas when invited to do so – we aim to raise vital funds and awareness for charities and great causes through rowing. Hand in hand with supporting great causes, Barbarian rowing with CBGC is underpinned by participating for leisure, enjoyment, health and heritage – not just competition. CBGC champions spending good time with good friends and spreading camaraderie amongst rowers from different clubs. Whilst we love racing hard when called upon to do so, every Cornish Barbarian first and foremost loves supporting great causes, having a good time and representing their home club as part of a BaaBaa crew.
