Big thank you to everyone who joined us in Coverack today for our beach clean (not all pictured!). We picked up lots of rubbish which helps to make our beaches safer for the species who live there. <3

User

Don't forget we are at Coverack tomorrow at 11am to clean the beach. Come along and help us give a little something back to our environment.

Happy #WorldAnimalDay! Did you know, Common Seals spend 85% of their day under the water? This includes resting on the sea floor.

User

Well done to British Divers Marine Life Rescue and Cornwall Seal Group Research Trust, a huge thank you to all the people that have reported sightings of Lucky Star, fantastic news!

So we have a very exciting announcement, on Squidge’s 4 month birthday we have found that Squidge is.... A BOY! He is now in our Penguin Pool with the rest of our Humboldt Penguin colony and his parents, Lola and Gilbert. After Lola and Gilbert struggled with their parenting skills, our Animal Care Team made the decision to hand rear Squidge, and it is thanks to their hard work that Squidge is a happy healthy boy!

As the Grey Seal pup season has begun, we thought we would share our top tips on what to do if you come across a seal pup on the beach.
1. Do keep your distance If a pup has a fluffy white coat, it still needs its mother. She will have spotted you long before you saw her and she will hopefully be watching from a safe distance out at sea. A mum will only return to feed her pup if she thinks it is safe to do so.
... 2. Don’t touch the pup It is a wild animal with sharp teeth. A mother may reject her pup if it smells of people, so keep downwind and out of sight.
3. Don’t put any seal back in the sea A white coated pup spends most time out of water. All seals haul out onto land to rest, digest and socialise all year round.
4. Do take a good look from distance If the pup is alone, thin, injured or seems unwell (noisy breathing, coughing, runny nose) it may need help.
5. Do something about it Telephone Cornish Seal Sanctuary for expert advice on 01326221 361 or British Divers Marine Life Rescue on 01825 765 546 giving an accurate location.
Please share this post as we want it to be a helpful guide on what to do if you do come across a seal pup in the wild.

We visited twice on our holidays thanks to the open return ticket. It was great to see the pup who was rescued on our first visit in the nursery pool making good progress. My 3 year old was so impressed you had made him all better. We look forward to seeing him released back into the sea via fb. Plenty to do on both visit to keep young and not so young entertained. The keepers were so friendly on both trips answering any questions we had its clear they love their jobs.

We visited today and had a great day out. We purchased the locals pass for the last couple of years so manage to visit quite a bit over 12months. I know some have an issue with the entrance price but after reading the information boards that are on display for the 60th anniversary(very impressive by the way) I can see that every penny has been worth it over the last 60 years. This place has moved with the times and while it might not be a playpark for children, it is continuing its main objective which is to rescue injured and poorly seals, and these numbers are growing as the years go on. When you look behind the scenes at what they are actually achieving you will also realise how amazing this place really is. Great place to educate your children. We have seen it change over the years to try and cater for all, so well done on your efforts. You will never please everyone!

We visited today & had an absolutely wonderful time! The age range in our group was 3yrs-60yrs & there was lots for us all to enjoy. All the staff were absolutely lovely & friendly and they were one of the reasons our day was so enjoyable. JP was brilliant & we learned so much from him about all the creatures, from today every time we shop we are going to look for the green leaf, on every product, to make sure that, if it contains palm oil, it comes from a sustainable, responsible source. We also adopted Willow for our 3 year old grandson, Anthony, as he particularly loved the seals. I highly recommend visiting the sanctuary, it's a lovely day out for everyone.

User

We had an awesome day yesterday for my birthday surprise of breakfast with the seals! I highly recommend the experience and can't fault the hard conservation work carried out by the team. Asa our guide was fantastic He really knows his stuff and you can tell he loves his job. Seeing these amazing animals in this environment is so refreshing when we see the terrible stories from places like Sea World.

User

We had a great day at the Sanctuary - though it was cold and rainy. Turns out the weather was an advantage for us, I can imagine that there would've been loads of people if the weather was less 'british' ;) Was really interesting to listen to JP's explanations about their topics!

User

Visited on Saturday 16.6.18 as we had come a few years ago and wanted to show our children. Our 4year and 20month old loves it and our 4 year old went and told all her friends at preschool today after we returned to Somerset. We will visit again when we come back to Cornwall

Many thanks and thankyou to the amazing work you all do

User

Such an amazing family visit and we could also bring the dog! We visited on Friday and came back on Sunday with our free return visit before we return home tomorrow. The staff are always so friendly and informative and the animals are captivating. See you again next time we are in Cornwall

User

Such an amazing day, we all really enjoyed it. The children loved the quiz and the medal they received at the end.

Also the fact that dogs are allowed was also a huge bonus. Will defo be back when we are in the area again!

User

Remember why you are visiting the sanctury and Paying £15.50 for adults and £12.50 FOR KIDS. For a good cause of rescuing seals. Not end of world if no new pups in at time of visit. Thats good as no babies/ seals suffering. There are money off vouchers to be found so can get in a little cheaper.. Great seeing them all happy sunbathing round pools. Loved the penguins but otters were having a lazy day!! 4th time we have visited great knowing we have paid money towards helping the seals. Thanksyou and keep up the great work you do!!

User

My daughter and I came to the Seal sanctuary as part of our half term holiday and loved it! She wants to be a marine biologist so found it all fascinating and informative! We also visited the Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay and did a ‘Beach Clean’ on Perranporth Beach. The Seal Sanctuary was definitely the highlight of our week and we’ll be recommending a visit to everyone- thank you for all the hard work you do xx

User

Love this place and the work it does. First came when I was a young child on family holiday and NEVER fail to visit every time I've been to Cornwall.....always say

"CANT go to Cornwall without going to the seal sanctuary "

Have had the pleasure of brining my daughter's when they were little and now they're grown and this year my grandson and.future wife. Keep up the brilliant work.

User

I want to say a massive thank you to the ladies in the shop today.

They were amazing with my 3 year old.

We brought him a badge out the machine near the seals and it was it broken.

However we took it into the shop and the ladies were just amazing. Even though they couldnt find the one he wanted they gave him another and 3 pop badges and also helped us swop some of this swops

He doesnt talk but he was so happy bless him

A massive thank you

User

I visited yesterday with my 7 year old son, he loves it here. This is the 2nd year we have bought the locals pass and will be buying it again, if it’s available. He loves going in the hospital to see if there are any poorly seals and is glad when it is empty because he says that means there hasn’t been any in trouble. He loves going around reading the information boards. I would definitely recommend this place. Keep up all the good and hard work that you do.

User

I visited The Seal Sanctuary during a visit to Cornwall back in 2016 after wanting to come along for a very long time. It is an incredible place will very knowledgeable and hardworking Staff with a clear passion and admiration for animals. The work they do for Seals and other animals is wonderful and very heart warming to see! I definitely recommend a visit and would visit myself too

User

I don't usually review on Facebook but this place is amazing and the work they do is fantastic! Honestly such a great place to visit and I can't wait to come back!

User

Had a lovely day today at the seal sanctuary. Enjoyed all the talks giving lots of info about the seals, really impressed how they work tirelessly to help these beautiful creatures and they are not used for our entertainment but our education. Brilliant day, would highly recommend

User

An amazing place to visit with my family. I liked the fact we could return with our tickets because with two small children you inevitably don't get to see everything first time around.

User

Fantastic place in stunning location. We were so moved by the efforts and success of rehabilitating seals that my son has adopted Ray.

The environmental education is brilliant. My children learned loads and were captured by the info on turtles, seals, the wonderful presentations and plastics in the sea particularly....

so please PLEASE reconsider how you sell food and drink in your café; we had no choice but to drink from single use/unrecyclable plastics - the very thing you campaign against so well and informatively . (The food and service was great however). We will definitely return but hope to see less throwaway plastics in the café. Thank you for a lovely day.

User

£12.50 for a 3 year old is a very high price for somewhere that dosent keep them entertained for more than a couple of hours, and only £3 less than full adult price. As a local person I probably wouldn't recommend to friends with young children. That said, we rescued a seal pup years ago and she went to the same that for rehabilitation so they clearly do a good job at that. She was named Orinoco.
