About Cotchel
Delicious juice, made from the apples which are too big, too small or too ugly for the supermarkets. Cotchel: "A Little Bit of Something Left Over"
Cotchel Description
Cotchel is slang from the London vegetable markets and means "a little bit of something left over".
Cotchel is what would be given out to the workers at the end of the day - produce which hadn't been sold, but was still delicious.
And that's what we use to make our juice: we grow apples and pears in our orchards on the Tendring Peninsular in Essex, and sell our fruit to the markets.
But the fruit which is too big, or small, or a bit wonky is then juiced in our on-site press, filtered, bottled and gently pasteurised to retain all the fabulous fruity flavour in a juice which doesn't have to be refrigerated until it's been opened (and even then it'll last 3 days in the fridge. . . although it's so delicious, we're pretty sure you won't be able to resist it for that long! )
When we press our juice, we just add some vitamin C to stop it going brown as it oxidises (like your apple does if you bite into it and then leave it). But that's it: nothing added. Nothing taken away. Just pure pressed juice.
We're as close to a zero-waste orchard as we think we can get. . . but there's always room for improvement, so watch this space!
