I am CSSW qualified with over 30 years of concrete industry experience spending the last 16 years specialising in concrete waterproofing. Initially focusing on crystalline admixtures across the EMEA regions with both Xypex and Kryton products while simultaneously working with UK based Insulated Concrete Formwork manufacturers providing waterproof solutions for basements and swimming pools. The updated version of the Code of Practice BS8102 in 2009 and subsequent implementation of a minimum of 2 levels of protection by major insurance providers for all habitable subterranean works deeper than 600mm meant a broader approach was necessary. For the last 5 + years I have worked on ICF basements with dual system protection using a combined Type A and Type B solution. The Type A systems have predominantly been the 'peel and stick' variety but I have progressed into spray applied liquid systems including polyurea and the Type B have been crystalline admixtures and associated construction joint details. Type C, or Drained Cavity, systems are a popular solution where the consequences of water ingress are high with a long term maintenance plan put in place. Using a single supplier simplifies and integrates the waterproofing process and I have worked with a number of suppliers offering all 3 forms of protection (Types A, B and C) and can offer associated warranties.
