In Conjunction with the Macula Society during Macula week we discovered some great apps that would be useful for both visually impaired and some that help sighted people.
Seeing AI - This uses the camera on a smart phone, you point it at text and it reads it to you! Honestly it's amazing! It will also tell you what's in front of you, reads bar codes on products, recognises people and tells you how old they are, what they are wearing etc. You have to download it and play but i...t is better than any magnifier and even better, it's free. Be my eyes - As a profession we ought to be embracing and promoting this! It helps those who cannot see have direct one to one communication with someone who can. They help with menial tasks such as picking a shirt colour. Available on itunes and Android
Tap Tap see - Point your phone at something and the app tells you what it is. Useful although the print is very small but you can change the settings so it talks and tells you what it is verbally. Available on itunes and Android
Baby see - You point your camera at the room and it shows you how your baby see’s the same view, with reduced contrast, reduced colours and early on even reduced focus. It is good for interacting with new mothers to make them aware what their child should be able to see and introduces them to being vigilant and aware of monitoring their baby's vision. It also introduces them to DO’s and how they can help, beyond selling them a pair of specs. Available on itunes

Eye problems from diabetes are the most common cause of blindness in people of working age. It is therefore important to attend your diabetic screening appointment every year.

Myself and my daughter visited Cromptons for the first time yesterday. All of the staff were so friendly and accommodating. The lady who performed the eye tests gave us lots of information regarding the screening and my daughter was fascinated by the images taken, which she took time to explain to her. The ladies on the front desk were keen to offer assistance with choosing the right frames for myself, and even let my daughter perform her stage school songs to them! Nothing was too much trouble. A lovely experience, thank you x

My first eye exam at Crompton’s yesterday , wonderful expetience , staff are very welcoming and friendly , the lady ,Judith who tested my eyes was very informative and explained all about the test and what was happening to my eye sight , Highly recommend to

Just the best! The wonderful staff are just fantastic; love going in. So lucky to have such a great business in the village, they look after the whole family.

Just been in to book an appointment, the whole opticians had a lovely friendly and professional atmosphere and the ladies behind reception were so friendly and accommodating to help find me an appointment that suited my shifts. Would highly recommend this opticians to anyone!

I just wanted to say thank you Tim. Darren is very happy with his shooting glasses. We live in South Cheshire and Darren only ever has items such as these and clothes, bespoke fitted. We struggled to find an opticians in the locale to assist, until we found you!



Darren says you gave personal and attentive service. Also, the price charged for the two pairs was excellent. Running Ginders Wealth Management Ltd and holding some Client Shooting Events, it is not only about Darren "looking the part", but he also wants to be comfortable and perform well. With your help, this has improved his chances no end!

Excellent service and aftercare, with really friendly and helpful staff.

Been going to Cromptons for over 20yrs. Excellent service - always and friendly staff. All staff are child friendly which is important if you have a difficult toddler who requires regular visits :-)
