'It is not only by their size that Freake's 'Cromwell Houses' are distinguished from most of the surrounding houses. Unlike those, the 'Cromwell Houses' were provided by Freake with quite large back gardens. Freake also showed unusual restraint in their architecture, whoever was the designer. - Survey of London.
