Starting strong! ~ It’s the start of a new week here at Huntsman and always we know that everyone will walk into the box with 100% commitment...that’s one of the biggest differences we have that separates us from a regular gym. ~ We do not just simply go through the motions, every single person that steps through the doors is poised and ready to deliver the maximum effort that they need to produce in order to improve.... “Murph” ~ This is one of my favourite days of the year in the Huntsman calendar! It’s incredible to watch so many people congregate together to work hard and help raise money for charity. ~ Murph is a workout created to honour the memory of Navy lieutenant Michael Murphy and as such the workout should be treated with respect, make no mistakes this is not a workout to be taken lightly. Yes we want people to work hard but we also want people to understand limitations, it is i...mportant to recognise that the goal is to be able to train the following week without any issues. If boundaries are pushed and quality of movement become a second thought then this workout can leave bad mark, you only have to watch the games athletes competing in 2015 to see the devastation this workout can have on the human body. How far are you willing to go?! ~ It was incredible to see so many people working hard at the box today on this bank holiday. It is often so easy to let the long weekend get away from us and just write it off, making the statement that we will correct everything as soon as we get back to normality. The extra margins of improvement are made whilst others choose to rest and work is completed when no one else is looking. ~ This does not translate into locking yourself away in a... dark place with nothing but hard work, punishing yourself with barbells and the daily grind. Balance is just as important, whilst we celebrate hard work here at Huntsman we also try to cultivate the perfect environment filled with amazing people that bring the energy to the box every day. This past weekend was yet another incredible display of how amazing you all are here at Huntsman! ~ Over the two days, 14 teams of 2 battled it out through 7 tough workouts at the Strength in Depth Inferno Pairs competition. There were too many highlights to even recollect but amongst them, coach Becky and her friend @davis_char finished 7th overall out of a very strong field of athletes. There was a huge amount of new PB’s across the board when it came to hang clean event.... ~ But above all of these achievements the most impressive was how the whole crew carried themselves throughout the whole weekend, there was never a moment where any member of the Huntsman team was not having fun both on and off the competition floor. Not only did the competitors display great camaraderie but as usual the support from the rest of the box on the sidelines was second to none. So much so that we as a box won a £250 team entry into Strength in Depth origins later this year, a whole load of stash from Nocco, RX bar and whey’d curtesy of the event organiser for being the biggest community there! ~ This has made everyone here at Huntsman very very proud and the efforts from every competitor has reverberated around the gym, inspiring many other in the whole community for future events. ~ So we just want to say a huge thank you to everyone, you are the life and soul of the box and it is vastly larger than the four walls of the gym. In the strength and conditioning world we often see simple movements overshadowed by the technical party tricks ~ Here at Huntsman we get just as excited about someone achieving a new level of mastery in simple movement as when a person gets their first muscle up. ~ Yesterday was one of those days, in every session I coached I had a huge smile on my face as I saw a lot of people hitting new milestones in their training.... They may not be huge in the grand scheme of things but we take huge pride in people mastering basic movements because they form the foundation upon which you can build on! ~ Special moments to mention was seeing mark perform box jumps in a workout for the first time, (he did one of his first whilst I was away on holiday and it was one of the best pieces of news I received!). Then there is the legend that is Rita completing full range of motion lunges. Moments like these are magic and should never be overlooked.
