Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service Description

Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service contributes towards creating a safe and secure community within the county. The organisation strives, with our partners, to educate the people of Cumbria to help prevent fire and road related deaths and injuries. This will be achieved through identifying and working particularly with those groups who are most at risk ensuring that appropriate safety measures are in place. When called to an emergency the fire and rescue service will utilise best operational practice to minimise injury and loss. Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service is an integral part of the Safer and Stronger Communities Directorate of Cumbria County Council.

It only takes a small mistake to start a fire in your home. Don’t let it be your cigarette. Put it out – right out. #FireKills See the video in full at http://socsi.in/qeHUM

You’re more than seven times more likely to die in a fire in your home if there are no working smoke alarms. Test them regularly. For more fire safety information, visit http://socsi.in/FPQs8 #FireKills

Great joint working from Cumbria Fire & Rescue, North West Ambulance Service and Great North Air Ambulance today in Shap. An adult male with injuries that meant he couldn't walk down the ladder of the scaffold. Working at height equipment from the Penrith appliance was used to safely lower him down. The Air Ambulance then air lifted him to hospital. #notjustputtingoutfires

There's not enough stars to describe the dedication and heroism of these wonderful folks. Have just made it home following a night stranded in the flooding in Kendal. All day and all night these amazing folks were just 'there': rescuing people, sorting out flooding and making sure people, animals and property were safe be it in the towns or on the roads. We might have had to retreat to upper floors with no electricity and several feet of water downstairs, but all night through until the early hours these folks were in lashing rain, wading about in torrential rivers that were once roads. Looking out of our upstairs rooms at 2, 3, 4, 5am and just seeing you all there was so reassuring - hope that you are all ok, and *words can't thank you enough* :o)

Massive thanks to Cumbria Fire and Rescue who tonight attended a smouldering vivarium in one of our properties. The tenants were out and whilst they take great care of their animals, a heatmat shorted out and almost set light to the chippings in the glass enclosure, filling it with smoke: once the vivarium was opened this smoke permeated the flat.

The fire service officers were incredible and saved the snakes and a very large iguana.

They ensured all was safe: pumped in air to clear out the smoke and didn’t have to use any water, thus avoiding any damage.

Everything was controlled so well and extremely professionally in a cool, calm and collected manner. It is comforting to know that when and if a problem arises we are in such good hands.

Sincere thanks to these great people.
