Our brave service animals are vital for our police forces and show tremendous courage in protecting our officers. Like Finn, service animals deserve to have the protection of the law and perpetrators should face tough sentences for harm inflicted @policedogunit @cumbriapolice

On average, three people die each day on country roads, 60% of all fatalities in Great Britain occurred on rural roads in 2018 and the number of people killed on rural roads was more than 10 times higher than on motorways in Great Britain in 2017, according to The Department of Transports THINK! campaign @THINKgovuk @cumbriapolice

County Lines is a phrase which does not refer simply to the transportation and dealing of drugs across counties but specifically the exploitation of vulnerable children and adults by organised criminal gangs @policingslavery @cumbriapolice @MSHelpline

At this time of year, as more people visit our countryside it is important to remember some simple safety tips. If you’re walking through fields with livestock this Easter, keep dogs on leads, move quickly and quietly and if possible walk around the herd, and try to avoid getting between cows and their calves.

Restorative Justice gives victims the chance to meet or communicate with their offenders to explain the real impact of the crime – it empowers victims by giving them a voice. It also holds offenders to account for what they have done and helps them to take responsibility and make amends @RJCouncil @Cumbriapolice

The most common time for burglaries to occur is when homes are empty. If you are planning to go away over Easter, remember to lock all windows, doors, gates, sheds, and garages, do not leave spare keys around and about, and be cautious of posting messages or pictures on-line that may alert people that your house is empty

NO MOBILE WHEN MOBILE - Research from Brake shows that although using a hand-held phone causes the greatest distraction, using a hands-free phone does not significantly reduce the risk. It still causes distraction because the driver is concentrating on two thinking tasks at the same time and often taking their eyes off the road to look at the screen. Further research by the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) comments that 47% of motorists aged between 25 and 34 admitted to making or receiving calls while driving, up seven percent from the previous year. Reading a text message is not a matter of life and death but taking your eyes off the road could well be. Using a phone when driving is irresponsible, puts your own life at risk and other people’s - JUST DON'T DO IT!

Cumbria police are holding a Livestock Awareness Day in Buttermere on Sunday April 14 where friendly advice will be given about the law and keeping dogs under control near sheep. It is important to highlight the safety of livestock, animal welfare and recognise our responsibilities when we enter farming land @cumbriapolice

We have joined with Crimestoppers to highlight the dangers of using mobile phones when on the move, as we are all road users in some way or another and need to make a personal commitment not to use our mobiles phones when on the road. Mobile phones are an essential part of many people's lives and some drivers allow themselves to be distracted because they think they are in control and do not believe they are putting themselves at risk. The best way to avoid becoming distracted when driving is to switch off the phone and place it out of reach (e.g. in the glove compartment) removing any temptation to use it @cumbriapolice @CrimestoppersUK

Helping children be more aware about the risks of sexting and sharing images is essential. Anyone considering sending such content must remember that once you have sent an image, you have forever lost control of it, and it could be used to bully, harass, or even locate you. Our advice is if you would not willingly show your parents the photo then do not send it @Cumbriapolice

Would you know how to spot the signs of modern slavery in Cumbria? Modern slavery is closer than you think and in plain sight #modernslaveryhelpline @theclewer @policingslavery @cumbriapolice

It was great to meet staff, survivors and volunteers at Safety Net yesterday. The therapeutic service is available across the county for children, young people and adults, of all genders. Survivors meet with specially trained therapists and support staff who use a trauma informed approach to support people to understand and deal with the impact of the sexual assault or abuse @safetynetnorth

As part of National Stalking Awareness Week 8 – 14 April 2019, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) have launched a national campaign to raise awareness of the Silent Solution, the system to help people alert police when in imminent danger but unable to speak. The system is well-established in the UK but not well-known, and it can only be effective if we all know and understand how it works. The Silent Solution system enables a 999 mobile caller who is too scared to make a noise, or speak, to press 55 when prompted – to inform police that they are in a genuine emergency. #MakeYourselfHeard #SilentSolution

Never pay for holiday accommodation, travel or package holidays by bank transfer, however desperate you are to get away. You could be waving goodbye to your holiday/flight AND your money #safebreaks https://crowd.in/iyvSZO
