Cumbria Strength & Conditioning Description

At Cumbria Strength & Conditioning we want to provide you with all the tools to successfully meet your health and fitness goals.

Whether youŌĆÖre a keen sportsperson looking to improve in your chosen sport, a complete beginner to the fitness world needing the knowledge and motivation to get started, or someone who is keen on taking their health and fitness to the next level, CSC is the place for you.

We will be running a variety of class's including conditioning classes, Olympic weightlifting for all ability levels, Core strength and stability classes and we also focus on mobility, flexibility and postural awareness. We want people to move well in all ranges of motion which will transfer to everyday life and also longevity in training and playing sport.

CSC is ran by Matty Green, a former Royal Marines Commando with a passion for health and fitness. He is a Certified British Olympic weightlifting coach, Crossfit level 1 trainer, Functional Movement System certified and is on his way to accreditation with the UKSCA.

We have a variety of different memberships available to suit you, with no joining or cancellation fees and no minimum contracts.

Each and every workout is scalable which means whatever level of fitness you're at, we can always find an exercise to meet your needs. We also offer 1 to 1 personal training or group training sessions. We can cater your sessions to meet your goals, we individualise programmes to make sure you are getting the best out of every session.

The tool that will help you get those extra few kilos for a PB....or is it? ­¤ś▒
For many people the weight belt is overused and simply promotes weakness within the core. You have your own built in weight belt. It's called the Transverse abdominis (TVA) and many people have no idea how to actually activate it. Preparing for a lift isn't just about squeezing your abs.
... The whole system which includes, TVA, pelvic floor, your internal and external obliques, multifidus and spinal erectors and finally the key muscle, your diaphragm all need to be activated in order to create true intra abdominal pressure and spinal stability. If you can truly activate this lot at once, you WILL increase the amount of load you can lift, DECREASE the risk of injury and INCREASE sporting performance ­¤Åŗ’ĖÅŌĆŹŌÖé’ĖÅ­¤żĖŌĆŹŌÖĆ’ĖÅ­¤ż╝ŌĆŹŌÖé’Ė Å­¤Åī’ĖÅŌĆŹŌÖé’ĖÅ
So if you have no idea how to activate the system, don't rely on your weightbelt for help, you're only tricking your central nervous system to bypass it's own. Take a step back and decrease the amount of load you're lifting, learn to lift without it and you'll lift for longer.
I'm not saying there isn't a need for them. Powerlifters, strongmen, KB sportsmen/women you guys need them for your sport.
But for the every day athlete, stop relying on it and learn to activate your core properly ­¤”Ź­¤æŖ­¤Å╝

I've tried out all kinds of different gyms and I just love this place most of all. All the coaches know their stuff and are totally honest with you and help you come on with your goals in leaps and bounds. I've improved my mobility, strength, and confidence since coming here and constantly setting and hitting new little goals. I've made a lot of friends here at the classes too! Everyone is so welcoming. Oh and it's mega clean and tidy too!

I cannot recommend this gym enough!! I have been having PT sessions with Matty to get me fit enough to complete a tough trek, I have some previous injuries which Matty has taken on board and tailored the lessons to suit me, it has also been very educational learning how important strength is and how to look after your body, everyone at the gym seems so friendly too itŌĆÖs definitely worth popping down.
