Over the past two weeks, we have had the pleasure of running a 'Project Management & Technology' course for Year 10 students on work experience at American Express. In teams, students created and coded a Lego Mindstorms EV3 robot to fulfil a client brief in a limited time and then presented their solution to VPs and Directors at the end of the week! It was great to see them all rise to the challenge and practise their teamwork, project management and presentation skills in a real work environment. Well done!

This Spring/Summer we have been busy visiting lots of Sussex schools as part of STEMfest run by STEM Sussex! It has been great to introduce so many students to robotics and engineering using Lego and simple coding. Even better is seeing how they then modify their robots and create their own programs! One of the best (and actually common) bits of feedback we get from teachers is that students who aren't normally that engaged at school are getting completely stuck in and really enjoy the activity, which is just brilliant to hear and validates our hands-on learning approach.

We had an amazing time yesterday running our special event for the Spring Forward Festival! Girls aged 6-12 and their mum, grandma, aunt, or other female adult mentor were invited to come along to a free creative technology workshop and engage with Lego robotics and computer programming. The workshops were facilitated by Jacqueline Currie - an aerospace engineer and the founder of Curiosity Hub.
Massive thank you to our volunteers, event sponsors and Spring Forward for making the event possible!

Our Home Education Science Group course next term will be 'Aeronautics & Astronautics'! For recommended ages 11-14.
Registration and more details online at: https://curiosityhubhomeedjan19thursday.e ventbrite.co.uk
Thursdays, 17 Jan to 14 Feb (5 weeks), 1.30-3pm at Lewes Friends Meeting House.
... Up, up and away! Through Curiosity Hub’s ‘hands-on’, interdisciplinary approach, students will learn about different kinds of aircraft and how the four main forces acting on them - lift, weight, thrust and drag - interact. They’ll also discover how airplanes are controlled and use paper airplanes to demonstrate these principles. Then it’s onto space exploration, how humans survive in space and future missions to other planets. Along the way, we’ll also discuss the societal and technological impacts that aeronautics and astronautics have had on our world.
