Curious critters are looking for a part time assistant
Part-time around 4-8 hours per week plus extra where needed
... You will need to have a genuine interest and understanding of animals and be confident in handling and caring for them.
You must be able to speak clearly and be confident talking to small groups of people of all ages. You will need to be caring and patient with excellent communication skills.
What you will be doing :
Animal care is essential and the maintenance of the animals will be the major part of the roll helping to assist with the feeding and cleaning of animals, animal enclosures and equipment, mainly midweek based.
Along side the animal care there could be weekend work travelling with the animals to give presentations in a fun and professional way, giving all participants the chance to ask questions and interact with the animals. You will work with children, elderly persons, dementia and mental health patients, disabled people and people with autism.
You must be reliable and flexible as weekend and bank holidays will form part of your hours.
Job is based from Atherton and travel to various locations within the north west Due to the nature of the role, a full criminal records check will be conducted (DBS).

First outdoor event of the year !

I often question if I made some wise life choices, was it worth working 16 hour days ? The endless cleaning and feeding, paperwork and animal enrichment?
... This afternoon I received this from the postman and truly hits deep the effect my work has on others.
This was a visit we made last week to an additional needs school based in Chorley, we talked about animal life cycles,animal classification and key facts in a therapy assisted presentation - itвҖҷs receiving mail and feedback like this that make it all worth while and and a feeling money canвҖҷt buy.

***IMPORTANT INFORMATION***
As of the 1st April 2019 - anyone taking animals out to exhibit in public (with the except of invertebrates and registered charities) MUST hold an Animal Activities Licence as per the Animal Welfare Regulations 2018. This will replace the current Performing Animals Licence which anyone who exhibits animals should have. ALL animals exhibited in public must be accompanied by a licence and licence number should be on display. (There will be no excepti...on except for inverts and charities i.e Registered pats dogs) Please ensure that any animals that are booked for any events are provided by licensed and insured individuals and companies. This includes school visits, libraries, book shops, public events, festivals, care homes if an animal is on display to the public then it must be licensed no matter what species it is For more information you can contact your local council and talk to your councils animal welfare officer. These are important regulations to ensure all animals and the public are safe and protected
Over the last few months Iv been working late into the night updating endless amounts of my paperwork from my performing animals licence, building new animal enclosures and adapting many aspects of the business.
Today after waiting some time we finally got our curious critters zoo inspection to which the inspectors praised us and happy to report our licence has been granted for 3 years with our higher standards of animal welfare.
