🍎 Weaning week 🍏
We discussed choking at length this evening at my class in Abacus Children's Day Nursery Everyone was through their weaning journey but still keen to understand what to do if ‘silent and blue’.
One of the things we discussed is the difference between gagging and choking.
... These points below can help you to recognise the difference and help to take the stress out of weaning (so you can just focus on the mess!).
Please remember choking is silent and so always supervise your child when eating.

🥕NATIONAL WEANING WEEK🥕
Its National weaning week. This is such as amazing milestone for our little ones but often a daunting one for us as parents. But it doesn’t have to be, watching your baby try new flavours and textures is really fun.....really very messy, but fun!
If you’re unsure where to start, or if your child is ready for weaning, have a chat to your health visitor, or lots of local children’s centres run weaning workshops.
... This information from the NHS is really useful to get you started. https://www.nhs.uk/start4life/weaning
I’ll be sharing weaning safety and first aid tips throughout the week.
This is Connie who relished most foods we gave her, however this face doesn’t say so 😂👶🏼❤️

More than one in ten women develop mental illness during pregnancy or within the first year of having a baby.
7 in 10 women play down the severity of their illness and hide the extent of their struggle. A number of these women may not even realise the full extent for themselves.
... If you are experience anything that you are not happy with, or you know someone that you are worried about then speak to them and offer a listening ear. There is lots of help available but the first step (as with all first aid) is recognition as early as possible.
This info graphic is from NSPCC and the stats are from https://maternalmentalhealthalliance.org/ about/the-issue/ where there is lots of information, including how to get help and support

❤️ If you’re struggling...you are not alone
❤️ Admitting that motherhood is bloody hard work is no reflection on whether you’re a “good mother” or how much you love your kids

🤒 THERMOMETERS🤒
🌡We often get asked about taking temperature and advice on thermometers in class.
🌡Here Dr Ranj talks about thermometers, and which are and aren’t recommended to use on young children.

Would you know what to do?

The sky may have looked a little dark as I left Langholm this afternoon but my mood certainly wasn’t!
I’d spent the afternoon with 3 gorgeous babies and their mummies plus a ‘mummy to be’ and ‘grandpa to be’ sharing emergency first aid skills 💕
Oh, coffee, 🍰 and 🍪 too! Thank you for having me and your kind hospitality.
... What more could a girl want, another group now #firstaidready and a lovely drive home through the Scottish Borders 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
