I spent yesterday with the teachers from Helen O'Grady Drama Academy Bromley, Gravesend & Sevenoaks as they took their annual Paediatric first aid refresher class.
We’ve been teaching these guys for the last 3 years now and it’s always a pleasure! People always worry about how much they’d remember if they found themselves in a real life situation but from the sounds of it, they remembered plenty from last year’s class 😊

I am at Mothercare UK In Croydon’s Whitgift Centre tonight to meet and chat to expectant parents at their in-store event tonight!

This week is the first annual Celebrating Caesareans Week and I was absolutely thrilled to learn this! Here’s my experience...
Baby 1, Caitlyn, was breech. We found out at 36 weeks in and tried everything to turn her - bouncing on a gym ball, moxibustion, ECV - all unsuccessful. She knew where she wanted to be and she was staying there!! When the hospital told us we had to have an elective c-section, it felt anything but elective. I truly believed that the best birth was th...e safest route but I couldn’t help feel disappointed that all my choices had been taken from me and sad that I wouldn’t experience that flurry of excitement going into labour.
I had a 2 week wait of feeling anxious, nervous and without a real clue what it would be like and wondering how I would cope with the recovery. It wasn’t nice.
The day of the section however was so calm and relaxed. We got in the car and drove to hospital knowing we were having our baby that day. I remember songs on the radio during that journey, I remember walking down to theatre... the conversation my other half was making to distract me from the epidural needle. Then literally 10 mins later, Caitlyn has arrived and was in our arms!!
I started to go into shock and the medical team were on it immediately. I breastfed Caitlyn right away, and then spent a few days in hospital before taking her home.
Recovery was hard graft, but I was up and walking around within 12hrs and just took it slowly from there.
Aside from the physical recovery, I felt strange saying that I had ‘given birth’ because I didn’t feel that I had. It had been a surgical procedure rather than the birth pool and mood lighting that I had in mind.
Anyone that thinks that a c-section is an easy way out has probably not had one.
But our experience was so positive with Caitlyn that when it came to birth plans for our twin pregnancy, elective c-section number 2 was a much easier choice, and another really calm and fulfilling experience 😊

I’m on my holidays this week so apologies for any delayed replies!
We’ve brought the family to Stirling in Scotland for the SpecialOlympics GB Anniversary Games.
Always working though - helped a lady that fell over on the pavement this morning and got a tour of the ambulance with Caitlyn when talking to the first aid team and paramedics 😊🚑

Oh my - this actually brought tears to my eyes, thank goodness they had a Defib on site!!
Do you know where the nearest Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) is to your house or school? Would you know go to use it? It really is as easy as opening the box and turning it on but the difference it can make is often the difference between life and death

User

It’s shocking to think that this happened! We’ve all been there having to ‘nip’ somewhere but leaving your kids (or pets) in the while you do it in this kind of heat is like leaving them to cook in an oven!
Please do not leave your kids in the car in this heat - within 10 mins, the temp inside a car can reach beyond 45 degrees

User

As a Mum with 3 kids on the move, I found this really useful advice...

A day in the life... Today we trained a huge class of parents - both new and expecting, and lovely grandmother in our session at St Augustine’s Church in #Croydon That was followed by a sweaty drive over to Guildford (the temp gauge on my dash board was absolutely correct!!! 😳) where I then did a class for a lovely family in their home. . As with most of our classes, it was lovely to see everyone’s beautiful babies and to have a relaxed environment that supports #breastfeedin...g . Thank you to everyone I taught today - well done for learning important skills!! . . #daisyfirstaid #croydon #guildford #breastfeedinginpublic #breastfeedingweek2018 #baby #parenting #firstaid #cpr #cprtraining #meningitis #anaphylaxis #febrileseizure

Did you see the channel 4 programme about breastfeeding last night?
What are your thoughts?
I breastfed all 3 of my kids but only for the first couple of weeks so I didn’t really need to feed in public.
... I think we’re very lucky in this area to have support groups like Eastsurrey Hospital Burstow Babies, Baby Cafe and The Nest
Don’t forget that breastfeeding is very welcome in all of our 2hr baby first aid classes too!

Would highly recommend Daisy First Aid. Attended a First Aid course run by Stacey, which was really great. The content was presented really clearly, in a friendly and jargon-free way. Lots of time to ask questions and practice too. Came away feeling much better informed on how to deal with emergency situations should they arise.

User

We opted for the training at our house. George was our instructor and he was very good, explained everything clearly lots of hands on practice and made the course interesting. The 2 hours flew by

Would definitely recommend this course.

We did the first aid course yesterday. Ashley (who is lovely!) came to our home and did the course for us. She explained everything clearly and answered any questions we had throughout. We all came out feeling much more confident about what to do if the unthinkable happens. I would definitely recommend. Great value for money and so convenient as they come to you. Thank you Ashley and everyone at Daisy First Aid!

User

This course is brilliant! Presented at exactly the right level, with knowledge and facts but without being over medical and technical. Stacey covered all the basic areas of First Aid and a chance for loads of questions. I would totally recommend this course - it's something everyone should attend, young and old and will give them skills for life.

User

This course is absolutely fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone. Stacey is a wonderful teacher and taught us so much in 2 hours. The information is pitched at just the right level and Stacey is fantastic at answering questions and going over anything you are unsure about. Thank you Stacey!

User

Stacey is simply AMAZING! Her passion, knowledge and absolute loveliness are the perfect combination for the incredible service she offers...book in with Daisy First Aid!!!

Stacey is a super teacher. Friendly, knowledgeable and supportive. I really enjoyed the course. I feel more confident to handle an emergency situation with my two children - though I'm hoping I'll never need to! There's lots of very useful/life saving tips and guidance covering many topics. Highly recommend it to everyone.

User

Stace delivered training to Year R, 1 & 2 at St Michael's Infant school, Mickleham today - the children really enjoyed the training, learnt and had fun too. Stace got cuddles as a thank you from some of the children - this shows how great she was. Much appreciated and 'spot on'. Thank you Daisy First Aid

User

I did the one hour first aid class at Cake in Redhill.

Stacey was very good and made me feel at ease. She explained everything as she went on.

User

I did the course in Guildford this week. Very good and informative, my baby is now 4.5 months old, scary to think I have gone that far not knowing anything really about first aid for a baby as it's so different. Highly recommend and I would do before you have your baby.

User

Great 2-hour covering off all the bases we need as first time parents! Would highly recommend.

User

George delivered a course at our home, for us and group of couples from our NCT group. He was very reassuring, packed a lot in to 2-and-a-bit hours and we finished feeling much more confident about CPR and dealing with choking. Highly recommended.

User

Fantastic informative and interactive course. My husband and I left feeling prepared and knowledgeable in how to help casualties of all ages. It was particularly useful to be told the difference between helping an adult, child or baby and to be able to practise CPR on the baby dummy. Thank you Daisy first aid for a well delivered course.

User

Excellent class - just the right amount of information & hands on training to ensure you learn all you need to, without feeling overwhelmed. Stacey who taught us was friendly, clear and confident. Being a mum herself, she taught with a lot of understanding & empathy. I highly recommend investing your time & money in this class.
