Just kick the Lego and mushed up biscuits under the sofa. If your house is a mess, that’ll just make all the other parents (and me!) feel better 😃⠀ ⠀ 2️⃣ You know those couple of lovely mums at your antenatal class or playgroup that you want to hang out with, but you don’t want them to think you’re a weird stalker? Invite them. There’ll be no awkward silences because you’ll all be learning first aid! Then when the trainer goes home, you can get on to really important topics, like Love Island. ⠀ ⠀ 3️⃣ Invite your sister, who you want to babysit, but you wouldn’t trust her with a house plant. And your dad, who thinks he knows everything because he did a First Aid badge with the Scouts in 1968. ⠀ ⠀ 4️⃣ Put the kettle on. That’s your bit done!⠀ ⠀ 5️⃣ Get your guests to bring cake. And guests - you don’t have to go all Bake Off and actually make something. Just buy some cheapo fairy cakes at the corner shop on the way, because you forgot you had to bring cakes. That’ll do 👍⠀ ⠀ 6️⃣ Don’t worry if your toddler decides to have a complete emotional breakdown during the class. We Daisy First Aid trainers are battle hardened parents. We’ve been there, and we’re really not bothered 😊 ⠀ ⠀ 7️⃣ Relax! First aid is the most positive thing you can learn, so we keep our classes friendly and fun. Daisy First Aid has these tips for how to stay safe and have fun around water.
... 🏠 AT HOME
🌼 Always use self-closing gates, fences and locks to prevent children from gaining access to pools of water 🌼 Securely cover all water storage tanks and drains • Empty paddling pools and buckets as soon as they have been used. Always turn paddling pools upside down once empty 🌼 Always supervise bath time (never leave children unattended). Empty the bath as soon as possible after use
🏖️ON HOLIDAY
🌼 When researching your holiday, or arriving at your destination, check the safety arrangements of any water-based activities and if there is lifeguard cover at the pool or beach 🌼 Check bathing sites for hazards, check the safest places to swim and always read the signs – find out what local warning signs and flags mean. Take time to check the depth, water flow and layout of pools 🌼 Swim with any children in your care – it’s more fun and you can keep them close and safe 🌼 On beaches check when the tide will be high and low and make sure that you won’t be cut off from the beach exit by the rising tide. Also, be aware of dangerous rip-currents 🌼 Inflatables like dinghies or lilos are a well-known hazard – each year there are drownings as people on inflatables are blown out to sea. Do not use them in open water 🌼 Do not swim near to or dive from rocks, piers, breakwater or coral 🌼 Swim parallel to the beach and close to the shore
