Dame Allan'S Schools

About Dame Allan'S Schools

A group of independent schools founded in 1705. The only school in the North East to follow the established ‘Diamond Structure’ of education, which offers the academic benefits of single-sex education with the social merits of co-education.

Dame Allan'S Schools Description

Dame Allan’s Schools were established in 1705 and are currently based in Fowberry Crescent and Hunter’s Road, Newcastle upon Tyne.

We are pioneering in our offering of ‘diamond structure’ education, meaning our nursery and junior schools are co-educational, splitting off into single sex schools from years 7 – 11, and joining together again in the Sixth Form.

We pride ourselves on the Schools’ family atmosphere and traditional values. We do not only focus on academic success - although this is important - we believe in educating the whole child in a safe and supportive environment.

My daughter was only at Dame Allan's a year but in that year she achieved so much from a dedicated team of professionals I cannot fault and thank enough. My daughter attended Sunderland High School and was mid year 10 when it was announced to everyone's surprise in Feb 16 that the school was to close that summer. It was very much to the credit of Dr Hind and the Board of Governors who worked tirelessly to come up with a solution that would accommodate all of the pupils to complete their GCSE's on the same curriculum. Bearing in mind this meant huge changes to Dame Allan's finding teaching staff and adapting their timetable to accommodate the kids, it was quite a tall order in just a matter of months. Everything was done to make sure the kids were fully integrated and despite there being a few little issues at the start (which were resolved quickly), my daughter loved the school facilities and the quality of the education. Personally I cannot fault the education which has been superb and the teaching staff's communication always first class and willing to go that extra mile to help the kids achieve their very best. Would I then recommend Dame Allan's even based on a year? 100% yes; absolutely fantastic level of education and support for your kids. Again, I would like to pass on my sincere thanks for everything you did for Kayleigh; the dread and unknown we faced with School closure was devastating but I actually truly believe that she was enriched by sitting Year 11 with Dame Allan's in the end.
