About Dame Vera Lynn Children'S Charity
A support service for babies and children under 5 with Cerebral Palsy and other Motor Learning Difficulties
Dame Vera Lynn Children'S Charity Description
For 15 years Dame Vera’s Charity has been supporting families of young children with cerebral palsy and other motor learning difficulties from across the South East. The Charity has recently moved into new premises - Dame Vera Lynn Children's Centre in Cuckfield – in honour of the veteran entertainer’s 100th year – and to expand its work.
Dame Vera, whose songs kept spirits up during World War Two – and who was recognised in the Queen’s birthday honours in 2016 - said: “Establishing the charity was one of my proudest moments and I am now so pleased to see it grow to help more children and their parents. The new centre will be a wonderful haven of fun, activity and learning. ”
Alongside weekly conductive education sessions, in which children are taught movement through play and daily life with support from parents, the Children's centre will also offer a raft of extra services including respite care, holiday clubs and field trips. Children will have access to assistive interactive technology, such as white boards, tablets and ‘magic carpets’ – which project games and images onto floors – alongside physical, speech and language therapy. Help and advice will be on offer to parents, who will be able to hire equipment and toys, and staff will run outreach services to help mums and dads at home.
Reviews
Great series helping people with disabilities. This episode a young man with cerebral palsy sails a boat using eye-gaze technology.
A lovely story.
A small local inclusive music festival that celebrates the music community and equality.
Nice feature in the Chichester Observer on the Charity Ten Pin Bowling competition where we won £300 as runners up.
Think its a great idea having a trust for such a legend like vera lynn
The only place we got help, understanding and others in the same boat as ours... It was a place to start for us
It made me what I am today. I highly recommend it. xx
Doing a fantastic job. A great opportunity for the children you help, and who better to head the charity - Dame Vera Lynn.
Couldn't have managed without you, staff and S4P. Thank you.
An amazing place, with amazing staff working with very amazing children. We have been supported so much through school for parents and we love attending each week x
Amazing place! Our daughter has only had two sessions so far but the team have made us feel so welcome and are already making a difference to not only my daughter but us as a family. The sessions are fun and it's great to take away new techniques and develop them more at home. It's also great to be able to share with other families and be able to support one another. Thank you DVLT you are all truly amazing!
Amazing charity that supports children with Cerebral Palsy, we at Paula are most proud to support a wonderful charity through fundraising, keep up the good work guys!! x
