DAW DAW LEADS INCLUSIVE PRO CLASS Thursday 23 May / 10-11.30am / £6
Dan is a disabled performer and maker whose work draws on both theatre and dance to comment on his otherness. Delivered in a workshop format and tailored to the participants in the room, the class will focus on authenticity of movement, collaborative performance technique and choreographic composition. Dan’s workshop is fully inclusive and invites people of all abilities to attend.
... MORE ABOUT DAN Blurring the divide between theatre and dance, all work Dan makes becomes part of a series of attempts. With his work proposing that “success” and “failure” could possibly be the same thing, he plays, in different ways, with audience expectation in connection to his body’s deviating functionality.

👋👋👋 INTRODUCING DAN DAW: Q&A with our DX Choreo Award Holder 2019, Dan Daw.
A queer, disabled artist living in Birmingham. Dan works collaboratively with a growing network of companies and artists to develop new work for UK and international audiences.
... ➡️Tell us your first dance experience? My earliest memory of dance is sitting on the kitchen bench, watching my grandmother choreograph routines, using the microwave as her timer.
➡️What do you expect to develop during your time in residency at dx? This year, I’m making a new work ‘The Dan Daw Show’. Looking at “inspiration porn” and what it means to be elevated to “superhuman” status as a Crip performer.
➡️What does the choreography Award mean to you? It provides time and necessary space to rigorously explore my own physicality in the context of our new work and more broadly; exploring my crip’s body’s virtuosity. What is my aesthetic and how do I articulate that in a way that is authentic?

DX SUMMER DANCE SCHOOL ANNOUNCED 😍😍😍 NeXt Generation Youth Company runs from Mon 12- Fri 16 August in DX Studios
We are offering a week-long residency for 11-18 year-olds, who want to experience life as part of a professional dance company and learn from industry professionals. neXt gen youth will develop dancers' versatility, professionalism, confidence and artistry.
... Each morning will start with a company class followed by a variety of professional masterclasses and choreographic practice. The week will culminate in an open performance where dancers will present original commissions and showcase their talent to family and friends.
Each day will focus on a different theme, offering students a wide variety of experiences that include: ➡️technique classes ➡️creative workshops ➡️fitness & conditioning ➡️professional practice ➡️ careers advice ➡️ performance

We are very excited to present Birmingham Professional Class #BRUMproclass. This brand new scheme is a non-profit initiative in which local dance artists, companies and organisations collectively aim to provide, sustain and contribute to professional classes in the City.
Classes are open to pro-dancers, recent graduates and those in training. All membership packages directly fund the programme. There are three membership options: annual, m...onthly and a 4-week pass.
Members will receive exclusive access to two professional classes per week, plus priority booking and discounted rates for a series of one-off specialist classes and workshops.

... A mixture of individual acrobatic movements, such as handstand technique and tinsicas, alongside partner and group acrobatics that can readily be integrated into choreography.
Our aim is to encourage participants to understand the basics of good technique, e.g. handstand alignment, while exploring some of the different ways in which they can use each other’s bodies to lift, hold and move over each other

We are MEGA excited to have our Cuban Salsa dance classes back for the summer, join us at 7.30pm every Tuesday night w/ Helen Calcutt Dance.
Classes are fun and energetic, exploring the cultural rhythms and techniques of Cuban-salsa, including footwork, musicality, and partner work. This class has a strong social ethic, so you meet lots of new people, as well as learning some sensual suelta (solo) dance moves too!
