It is with deep sadness that we have to inform you that Susan Nolan (a company director) has sadly passed away following a tragic accident at home.
Understandably Mike Nolan will not be in the surgery until further notice.
Please respect Mr. Nolan and his family's privacy during their time of mourning.
... If anyone wishes to send condolence cards, you can send them to the surgery and we will forward them on.
The surgery is open as normal, however we will be closed from 12 noon on Friday 8th June and reopen again on Saturday 9th June.
Our other vets, Andrew Dawson and Richard Towers, will be consulting and operating as normal in Mikes absence.
We appreciate your patience and understanding at this difficult time.

Help hedgehogs during Hedgehog Awareness Week by making a Hedgehog Feeding Station.
Suitable food for hedgehogs would be water to drink and specialist hedgehog food, white meat, cat/dog food or cat biscuits.
NEVER offer bread or milk as this can harm hedgehogs.

Please sign the British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS) petition to withdraw UK approval of A24 trap used in New Zealand to kill hedgehogs. The trap is used in the UK to kill rats but is unaltered so is a danger to UK Hedgehogs.
There was a previous petition last year but this was cancelled because the general election was called and all signatures were declared void so the BHPS has had to begin again.
There are 14,000 signatures at present but 100,000 are needed by 1st... June to get it debated in parliament.

Next Week is Hedgehog Awareness Week
The British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS) is a registered UK charity dedicated to helping and protecting hedgehogs native to the UK
In 2015 surveys showed a worrying decline in hedgehog numbers in urban and rural areas in Britain. Hedgehogs continue to face pressure in the rural landscape and from urban development but monitoring numbers and public efforts to improve garden habitats and connectivity might be giving them a chance.
... You could text HHOG18 £5 to 70070 to donate £5 to BHPS (you can change the amount to £1, £2, £3, £4 or £10). There is also a Just Giving Appeal page at https://www.justgiving.com/bhps/donate

CAT OWNERS - REMEMBER THAT LILIES ARE POISONOUS TO CATS
Many of us are getting busy in the garden now spring is here.
If you own a cat avoid planting lilies. Cats are extremely sensitive to all parts of the lily. Just one lily leaf, if eaten, could kill your cat but any part is dangerous including the pollen and flower. Simply brushing by the plant, then licking the pollen off their fur can be lethal to a cat, causing severe kidney damage.
... Although most cases of lily poisoning occurs in the home usually from flower in a bouquet or pot plant, garden lilies can be just as dangerous.

Following on from our last post, about daffodils being poisonous to dogs, we wondered what this alarmed-looking dog might be saying.
What do you think?

User

It is lovely to see daffodils coming into bloom now Spring is arriving.
But did you know that DAFFODILS ARE POISONOUS TO PETS?
The toxic compounds in daffodils are glycosides and alkaloids and they are present in all parts of the plant but are MOST CONCENTRATED IN THE BULBS.
... Eating daffodils can cause irritation to the stomach resulting in vomiting and diarrhoea, abdominal pain, lethargy and drooling. These signs usually occur within 2 hours of eating the daffodils. Dogs and cats usually recover within 12-48 hours but this can be longer.
The bulbs also contain calcium oxalate crystals which can cause skin irritations.
Advice when planting daffodils:- . Keep bulbs away from pets when planting them . Make sure your dog or cat does not dig the bulbs back up again after being planted. . If you have cut flowers in the house place them out of reach of your pets
If you suspect your dog or cat has eaten daffodils (especially the bulbs) and is showing symptoms please phone reception on 01204 573413 or Animal Poison Line if we are closed.

HAPPY EASTER TO ALL THE CLIENTS AND PATIENTS OF DARLEY HOUSE!!!!

User

Please Remember - Don't give a chocolate gift to your dog over Easter: CHOCOLATE IS POISONOUS TO DOGS
Chocolate is toxic to dogs because it contains theobromine which dogs excrete less effectively than humans.
This can cause sickness, diarrhoea and dehydration as well as neurological and cardiovascular signs.
... Just 50g of plain chocolate could be enough to kill a small dog, such as a Yorkshire Terrier, while just 400g could be enough to kill an average size dog.
Chocolate is also toxic to cats, rabbits and rodents.
