The Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust (DPHT) is a registered charity established in 2005. http://www. dpht. co. uk / Visit us at the Dartmoor Pony Centre.

Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust Description

In the 1950's there were more than 30, 000 Dartmoor Ponies on Dartmoor.
Today there are less than 1, 500. Please help us to preserve and protect the Dartmoor Pony for future generations to enjoy.

Visit the website to find out about the many ways you can learn more about the Trust and help. Find out about adopting a pony, fostering or buying a pony and our Ponies Inspiring People courses - and much more.

We run innovative educational programmes using the Dartmoor Pony as a platform for learning, helping to promote the ponies fantastic temperament and versatility. During the summer of 2010 Fingle Farm Buildings erected a 75ft x 40ft building, containing two toilets, one disabled, a classroom and internal pony pens - so visitors can enjoy the ponies in even the wettest weather.

The DPHT works closely with Moorland Pony Keepers and runs a value added programme, helping to raise the value of the annual foal crop by taming feral foals and youngstock, so they can be safely sold to good equine homes.

The DPHT first started working with National Trust in 2007 when it started training rangers in management techniques suitable for dealing with semi-feral ponies on conservation grazing sites across the UK. The DPHT has also sourced a number of good quality Dartmoor Ponies for National Trust and its tenants to benefit wildlife habits through their ability to graze poor vegetation

Earlier this week our team had two days at Bellever Forest, Dartmoor. On Tuesday we had 12 volunteers pulling up ragwort on the site - and were delighted to see such a good impact from last year, plus a great clearance this year. Then on Wednesday it was back with just a few of us to gather in the ponies for farrier John Berwick. Here are a few photos from both days. Thanks Kitty for the wonderful victoria sponge! Wonderful Avian and Equine day today at Parke Estate, Bovey Tracey. We had the ‘name the foal’ competition for a little foal whose mum is called Langworthy Nuthatch and dad Lickfolds Sebastian - and it had to be a bird name. From all the names put forward, owner of the ponies Ken Edwards chose Peregrine! So Langworthy Peregrine he is - and one of the visiting Birds of Prey was also a Peregrine - called Barney! Congratulations to Ryan who chose the winning name and a big Thankyou to everyone who came along today. Here are some photos of both ‘Peregrines ‘ - with a very sleepy foal at the end of the day. It’s been a very busy couple of weeks with the DPHT! Last sunday we went along to help at the Dartmoor Pony Society Breed Show. What a wonderful turnout out some of the most gorgeous Dartmoors - many bred here on the Moor. Congratulations to the organisers for a fab day and to all the competitors. We were especially pleased to see our pedigree mare Kitkat, who came to us at the Centre from spending her early years up with the herd at Bellever Forest, Dartmoor, and has gone o...n to a lovely loan home for a season’s showing! Showing World. Kitkat behaved impeccably and gained a third place in her class. Several local farmers who are also members of our Recognised Pony Keeper scheme also did really well, with ponies that they admit were ‘grabbed out of the field’ the day before and polished and preened to go on to win rosettes in both in hand and lead rein classes! Some great examples of moorland- bred Dartmoors and a real showcase for the breed. Pictures show Dru with Kitkat before handing her back to Liz who shows her (very fine hat!) ; and pony keeper Margaret Rogers with her lovely mareActive Dartmoor Visit Dartmoor National Pony Society The Dartmoor Pony Society Dartmoor Pony Stamboek Responsible Equine Breeding Society Dartmoor National Park Devon Life Dartmoor Magazine The Native Pony Magazine PONY Magazine

RIDING PONY FOR SALE
ROSEASHES SIGNALLER (BRANDY) foaled 15/06/2007 (11 years old) Brown gelding, Pedigree Dartmoor
... SIRE SHERBERTON LIGHTNING FLASH ( S95/3 )
DAM SHERBERTON TORCHATTER ( 97/110 )
Brandy has been in the same home since he was bought at Chagford Market as a three or four-year-old. He has been much loved by a family and originally purchased for grandchildren to take on as he – and they – grew up, but has never really been ridden consistently or had many ‘life adventures’!
He is used to all farm animals and machinery so good in traffic and is gentle and quiet for children or adults to handle for catching, leading, bathing and grooming, and excellent with farrier, vet etc. However, he is ‘green’ so needs a competent handler and rider – child or small adult as he is a good, sturdy pony. His owner has decided that he is just not going to get the opportunities he deserves with her family and wants him to have a lifetime home with people who will help him become a good all-rounder.
Asking price: £600 Please call Jenny on 01647 432298 Ponies on Dartmoor Polite Ponies Horse & Hound Pony and Trap PONY Mag The Native Pony Magazine Dartmoor Cholwell Riding Stables Western Morning News Horses
