Dartside Quay Description

Tucked away at the head of Galmpton Creek, Dartside Quay lies some three miles up river from Dartmouth. In a sheltered position and with beautiful views across to Dittisham, it offers extensive facilities along with a chandlery.

The 7 acre dry boat storage area has space for a vast amount of boats and is serviced by a 65 ton hoist, one of the largest in the area, which operates from a purpose-built dock. There is also a 16 ton trailer hoist operating on a slipway.

These facilities are complemented by various specialist marine tenants on site who can assist with boat repairs and maintenance. A number of summer mud moorings are available.

Dartside Quay's location offers access to spectacular cruising both up the River Dart, with its many secluded anchorages, and along the unspoilt West Coast. The more adventurous can head further afield to the Channel Islands and the North Brittany coast, both of which are within easy reach and perfect for a weekend away.

Fantastic team effort this evening to 'get the job done!' Kingswear Princess ferry required an emergency lift! The team stayed on for the evening tide despite the stormy conditions and hauled the beast ashore! Not without its problems unfortunately, but team work prevailed and ashore she sits ready for the storm to pass and repairs to be made! Well done team Dartside, enjoy a well deserved weekend!

Prior to any hot works being carried out, you must notify the office at the start of the day and also at the end. You must adhere to the safety guidelines set out. www.mdlmarinas.co.uk/mdl-dartside-quay

Drain your water systems as much as possible to depressurise the system to reduce the risk of bursting pipes. If it is an especially cold winter, then water will expand when frozen which can lead to cracks and leaks so it is best to reduce the pressure within the tank and pipe system where possible.

Remember, don’t touch the shores. Do not tie anything to the props, shores, cradle pads that are keeping your boat fixed in position in the boatyard. Similarly, do not try to move them – if you’re antifouling then ask your local boatyard team if they can adjust the shores for you. Alternatively, just leave those final patches until the boat is being relaunched.

There’s nothing worse than getting your engineers, painters or tradesman ready, only for your local boatyard to be completely full or without availability in their lifting schedule. Be sure to book your boat hoist/storage AND your marine services as early as possible as the best service providers will be fully booked for the winter well in advance! Another beautiful day at Dartside Quay, a perfect day for lifting 🛥☀️

Whether you bring your boat ashore for the winter, or you decide to leave her afloat, there are a number of steps to take to ensure your boat stays in tiptop condition. Step 1. Remove sails; Most boatyards will ask for furling fore-sails to be removed prior to lifting but it is advisable to remove all your sails and sprayhoods if you’re coming ashore for long periods. Store them indoors to avoid damp and mould, and don’t forget to take your cushions and bedding with you as well. While you’re removing your sails, don’t forget to ensure there is tension in the backstay.
