David Jones Drumming

David Jones is a drummer whose passion for playing started at the age of 12. He was taught by a former session drummer Stephen Williamson, who has worked with such notable recording artists as David Gray and The Supernaturals. Through his training, David learned and mastered the techniques required to be the versatile and professional drummer that he is now. His teachings comprised of rudiments, technique, timekeeping, improvisation, feel, pop, bossa nova, rock, funk, jazz, reggae, latin, afro-cuban and how to read drum notation. These lessons ended when David achieved merit in his RSL (Rockschool) Level 3 certificate in popular music performance on the drum kit at grade 8.

After completing his GCSEs, David continued his full-time education at West Suffolk College where he completed his Edexcel BTEC level 3 extended diploma in music. This diploma enabled David to gain more experience in performance and teamwork. He also had the opportunity to learn and exhibit sound engineering skills at live performances and community projects. In 2013, upon completing the diploma, David was awarded a triple Grade: Distinction* Distinction Distinction.

David then decided to enhance his skills and knowledge by studying at a degree level taking a BA (Hons) in popular music at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU). Here David continues to gain more experience in performance, composition and developing a greater understanding of popular music history and culture. David is in his final year at ARU currently writing his dissertation “A musicological study of contrasting games published by Electronic Arts”. Upon completing his degree, David plans on utilising the skills and knowledge he has acquired from his degree, to then pursue a career as a full-time session drummer.
