What is Lifestyle Engineering?

This is question that I have been asked many times, so let me start by explaining. If we look at the two words, on the Internet there are definitions of both;

Lifestyle: The way in which a person or group lives
Engineering: The branch of science and technology concerned with the design, building, and use of engines, machines, and structures

So I guess now the question arises; how can these two possibly be put together? Well in simple terms, we can consider ourselves as structures. Therefore this structure can be engineered (or re-engineered) to perform in another way. Of course this makes complete sense when we are thinking about the body as a machine (as it is often referred to) and therefore such things as getting fit, eating well etc. come in to play here. However, when we think about our lifestyle as a structure, it is a bit more abstract. Yes, our body (the machine) is part of this structure, but there is also more to it…. . and this is the main failure point of the structure. Regardless of whether we have a strong or weak body (the machine), the operating system behind it (attitude, personal drive etc. ) is the area in which we most often need to improve, as it is this that enables (or prevents) us from achieving anything we would like to. By looking at how and why we do things, we can make changes to achieve better results.
It really is that simple, but of course we all heard and read about this a million times before. We often know the solution to a problem, whether it be how to increase our wealth or how to lose weight. However the problem here is that just knowing what we need to do, hasn’t really helped so we therefore need to look at the situation in a different way. This is how we get to Lifestyle Engineering – it’s a way of looking at the design, building and use of our lifestyles in a way that we actually want, as opposed to just being reactive and ‘going with the flow’.
