The staff over there are amazing, exceptional customer service to Joshua who look after me the day before my wedding and after my wedding.

User

Just back from lovely weekend celebrating our wedding anniversary was worried after reading comments on tripadvisor but hotel was lovely. Great room and lovely meal all the staff were friendly and helpful especially Joshua on reception. Thank you for great weekend.

User

We stayed for one night and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was fantastic value for money and our room was spacious and had everything we needed. We had some dinner in the bar which was very nice. Breakfast which was included in the price had a nice selection and the staff were all very friendly and approachable. We will definitely be returning. Thank you.

User

Really nice well kept hotel and spa area .had comfortable sleep and the room had great view .

I have been visiting this hotel for the last 11 years, sometimes just once a year. I have a son who is severely disabled both physically and learning disabilities. The staff at this hotel are the main reason I continue to visit as they are so understanding with my son who is now 16 yrs of age. They accept my son for who he is and some staff still remember him from at least 9 yrs ago and new staff too try to understand his individual needs. I would say that I am disappointed that there still are not adaptions to meet disabilities needs regarding the pool and changing facilities but yet again the staff are compromising and trying to make our stay the most comfortable. This does not happen everywhere! Thank you to the staff: now De Vere company need to meet all physical and learning disability needs mainly for adaptions to the buildings as the majority of staff are so understanding.

User

I have been here many times and will continue to comes. Yes the building is very old and does need some TLC, however, I can appreciate that the size of the building would mean that would be a hugely expensive project!

I love the fact that it's so close to London but you genuinely feel as though you're in the countryside! Yes, some of the rooms are dated but reception are always willing to do what they can to make your stay better, so just ask...

The food is of a good Standard and the spa is again a little dated but has everything you need.

I love that all the staff seem happy and greet you warmly. I love the welcoming fireplaces and the stain glass windows.

For the price, I think it's quite a bargain really.

User

Beautiful grounds and hotel. Food delicious although breakfast was a little cold. Staff very helpful and kind. I was there for a murder mystery weekend and the staff couldn’t do enough for us! Would highly recommend this place.

User

Nice place. But the cheap rooms at the back of hotel have the added bonus of the 0530 wake up call when the gold course ground workers start their day.

User

My sister and I came for a day spa booked through Wowcher. We know the hotel well, my sister had her honeymoon here many years ago. I agree with other reviewers that the place is looking very tired, frustrating as it has so much potential. However I am writing the review as I cannot fault the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff in the spa and bar. I had a facial and express manicure and was very pleased with the result. As I am a vegetarian I ordered the BLT and asked for cheese instead of bacon which was delicious. Wouldn’t rush back but overall a relaxing a pleasant day.

User

I went with a friend, with an offer to use the leisure facilities and afternoon tea. The member of staff in the leisure area wasn’t very welcoming and made us and some other guests uncomfortable. The pool area is all inside no access to the outside and it was a lovely day it would have been nice to relax in the sun and the sauna wasn’t working.

The afternoon tea was very nice and the staff in the dining area were very friendly.

Having visited other spa’s I wouldn’t recommend this one.

User

I had a nice stay here, but have to say away from the lovely entrance hall, conservatory, spa, & downstairs ‘public’ areas, the hotel is in serious need of a refurb. My bedroom, whilst spotlessly clean, looked tired & old-fashioned.... such a shame, as the building & grounds themselves are absolutely stunning. I would have given 2 stars, but your delightful receptionist Sissi is the reason I have added another - he went ‘above & beyond’ his duty to help me sort out a problem when booking-in.... what a very charming young man. Thankyou.

Did a Groupon deal here last night .

Bed breakfast & 2 course meal.

Tried to find out what time check is was but gives no information on their web site.

Arrived entrance was divine .

To then be told swimming pool still closed & not opening till 26th February.

The restaurant not open only the bar .

Asked about our everning meal to be told only from the bar .

Went to our room & what a disappointment.

Suppose to be 4star .

Curtains had mould on them & not just a little bit .

Head board had marks on the leather had gouged taken out .

Chair had hole in the back .

Stitching coming undone if chair .

Bed base stained

Bedside table chunks missing & looking very tired .

The blackout lining of the curtains had holes in .

The room was to hot heating turned of Windows opened through out night but still very warm.

Could hear everything from room next door so must of been able to hear us also .

Menu for everning meal very limited food was ok but nothing special .

My partners pizza was over done .

Not a wide selection.

Drinks very expensive £17 for x2 drinks

Breakfast no choice was told only cooked breakfast which was not very nice at all .

Coffee awful .

Also over watched by the workmen taking a Delievery right outside the bar while eating our breakfast .

Very strong smell of paint .

On the plus side staff were lovely .

I would definitely not have paid the full price .

I'm sure it will look lovely when finished but deffo not at the moment .

Not worth the going rate they are charging either .

User

The reception rooms are gorgeous there are some really beautiful rooms, however the room we stayed In was horrendous. There was no AC or ventilation unless the window was fully open and outside was very loud, also it made NO difference while the temperature outside was 30°! There was no cold water in the bathroom it was luke warm at best, the bed was uncomfortable and worn so you rolled into the centre, the carpets are uneven, old worn and lumpy. Lastly there has/Is a leak above so the ceiling is waterstained and bubbled! Very disappointed.

User

The hotel was not all bad but we cut our losses and checked out after one night of a two night stay. The building was impressive and the staff seemed polite. Our bedroom was tired and the bed was small (it did not seem to be a double). The leisure facilities were disappointing. The jacuzzi was large but ineffective and the sauna was closed (late Sunday evening).

There was a very limited dinner menu and the waiter seemed out of place. Firstly, when he brought our bottle of wine, he asked if we wanted him to pour it rather than if one of us wanted to try it. Secondly, "no worries" is not what what I expect to hear when I say I don't want to see the pudding menu. He was well meaning but did not listen. My partner ordered a salad with no tomatoes and noted that he had not written this down. Sure enough, the salad came with tomatoes. Breakfast was okay but nothing special. The hash browns were chewy. Mushrooms and black pudding would have been pleasing additions to the options.

Being charged £24.50 for two double gin and tonics in a hotel in Croydon was a bit of a joke.

User

Stunning from the outside. Bar...restuarants ..reception beautiful. But unfortunately our room really let it down, ripped carpet, broken bath handles, lacks air con room was boiling, sink was very slow to drain, minimal channels on tv, sadly this was a massive let down on a birthday weekend... also faulty fire alarm meaning we all had to evacuate at 2am and no staff to advise what was going on !

User

Nice staff they make the stay

No spa shut

No swimming pool shut

No gym shut

Room was ok but loud music till 1am

Was not told this so effectively I stayed in my room and watched Tv which was broke

Littered long driveway

Wonderful stuff thou which is why it didn’t get one star

User

Initially I was very impressed, but once past the luxurious reception and grand hall everything got rather disappointing. My Bedroom was functional, but very basic and dated (not in a sympathetic way) plus freezing cold. The radiator was on max, yet no heat and no blankets! The hot buffet breakfast was luke warm (despite sitting in warming pans) and the leisure area and spa was closed, with guests being told to drive down the road to swim. A far cry from the promising grandeur that was advertised online. The staff were noticeably friendly and hardworking though, the porter brought me a heater so I didn’t freeze and the receptionist had been working all night and was still going next morning looking pristine! It’s a beautiful historic building, but seems to be too vast to deliver what’s expected from it.

User

As we were attending a party close by, my wife booked DVSE, Location was great, setting, brilliant, first impressions entering the Hotel, this is stunning, then you enter the bedroom...nope, very poor. There was even dirty glasses and bottles left outside our room from the previous guests...

For a start, no air-conditioning, yet they provide a dyson cool tower which is anything from cool, could have an air-conditioning unit for around the same cost. The room was drab, but fit for purpose i suppose, nice bathroom that had been given some thought, other then the shower and taps had no pressure whatsoever, terrible...quite laughable really after seeing how nice the bathroom was.

Following morning, breakfast. Dirty cutlery and crockery...and these were the cleaned ones? other then that, was ok. We returned to our room to pack and then saw how dirty the base sheets were on our bed, right across the bottom it appeared to have mould showing through...and to think we'd slept on them.

Also, do be careful having a pivoting tv screen so close to the desk, if someone turns when standing up, the'll catch their face, worse still eyes on the corner of the tv screen, Plenty of other wall space. Which then leads me to....where is the small table and chairs that should sit in the room, the size of remaining dead space...that the Dyson sits within, where would you sit, drink or eat when requesting room service?....

Well, was considering bringing the kids here for a weekend when we'd initially arrived, I'll let you guess if we'll be returning.

User

We have just had the worse break away I have ever had in my life. It was a total disaster. I would strongly recommend against staying here.

I booked a spa weekend package in July for myself and 5 friends, for this weekend.

In September I phoned and booked in all our spa treatments.

On Friday afternoon, less than 24 hours before our break, the hotel phoned to tell me , as they put it, some disappointing news. The spa and leisure facilities are closed and so is the restaurant.

Our package should have included dinner, bed and breakfast along with 2 spa treatments. At this point we realised our trip was ruined. However, Francisco at the hotel assured me if we went ahead with our weekend he would make sure we had the best possible weekend. He did not.

Well if the weekend we had was the best possible at this hotel, they should give up now and close.

Everything that could go wrong did. Our rooms weren’t right, as we were offered the best rooms available, however at check in we found this not to be the case, so an hours discussion took place before we got what we had been promised.

Next we were offered a reserved table in the orangery with 3 bottles of complementary champagne. We were told this would be arranged while we unpacked. Once we had we made our way to the orangery, to find no table and no champagne. Again we had to sort this ourselves and we only had 2 bottles of champagne.

At dinner in a makeshift restaurant in the bar area, we were offered food from a very restricted and disappointing bar menu. Even then we ordered some starters only to be told they had run out.

So after a frustrating and frankly disastrous day we made our way to bed hoping for a good nights sleep. How wrong we were, as a private party function with very loud disco was taking place under our rooms. Which continued to rock our rooms until 12:30am.

As you can imagine a terrible nights sleep followed.

As for breakfast, it was cold, the bacon was raw and the food just wasn’t up to the standard you would expect at this type of hotel.

We are a group of 6 ladies with young children , who, save all year for this one break away. Our husbands take time off work to look after our children and the whole weekend is booked months in advance. This hotel basically stole our weekend . They knew that the spa and restaurant was not going to be open for our stay back in November but they chose not to tell us or give us the opportunity to organise an alternative. What an awful hotel and the worse customer service I have ever had the misfortune to experience.
