Thank you to Steve Smith, new Club Captain at Sundridge Park Golf Club, for choosing to support Demelza.
This exciting partnership kicked-off at Steve’s drive in on Sunday 23 September, which was attended by more than 120 members and guests.
Steve chose Demelza as his charity of the year after ‘being inspired’ by a recent visit to our hospice in Eltham, South East London.
... The club will be fundraising throughout Steve’s captaincy year, with all funds helping Demelza to provide care and emotional support for children with terminal conditions and their loved ones.

At Demelza we value our community links and work with a range of organisations to give our families a full range of support.
Recently our staff had a visit from Michelle Harvey (Life Celebrant) and Gary Valentine Fuller (founder of The MumMum Foundation) who have set up the Bereavement Café in Orpington. This was to discuss the needs of the community and how our organisations can work together.
Family Support staff learned about the origins of The Bereavement Café and the work Michelle and Gary do to support families. Michelle and Gary learned about the role of a Family Support Worker at Demelza and was able to learn about the benefits of Music Therapy for children and families.

Tired of Ted Baker? Grumpy with Gucci? Fed up with Fendi and bored with Burberry? Then ditch your designer dresses and haute couture and help a good cause at the same time!
The Demelza Charity Shop Tonbridge which opened in August and has several designer clothes, shoes and accessories rails, which are proving very popular. So popular in fact that stock is selling extremely fast, meaning the shop is in need of some more donations.
The shop would welcome items for women, men a...nd children, whether it’s a stunning party dress, a work suit or designer shoes. Stock can be taken to the shop during opening hours which are Monday – Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday 10am-4pm.

Former footballer and TV pundit Tony Cottee kindly took time out from his busy schedule to support a charity golf day which raised nearly £14,000.
The event was organised by the house building company Bellway Kent with the proceeds to be split between Demelza and Cancer Research UK.
Thank you to everyone who took part and supported the day.

Happy 18th birthday Jake - from all of us at Demelza!
As well as the celebrations at our Eltham hospice Jake is also to enjoy another party at home with his family and friends – and we hope he has a fab time!
Jake has defied all the odds as he celebrates the milestone birthday. Born with brain damage and cerebral palsy quadriplegia, after being starved of oxygen at birth, he was not expected to make it to his first birthday, let alone his 18th. His 18th was a day his family f...eared they would never see.
Demelza has supported Jake and his family since he was just three months old – through the good times and the bad, as Jake has battled serious illness several times. Going forward Jake will now be supported by our transition service in Kent as he moves from our child services to adulthood and we continue to be there for the family every step of the way.

Thank you to everyone who visited us at Demelza Sittingbourne yesterday when we opened our doors to the public.
Approximately 200 people came to learn more about local children’s hospice care through tours of the hospice and spending time chatting to our specialist teams. Guests also tried their luck on our tombola and lucky ducks game and picked up some bargains in our pop up shop.
In addition to raising awareness of Demelza, £2000 was raised on the day which will help us ...to continue supporting children with terminal conditions and their families.

Well my darling niece only spent a few days in demelza before she was taken by the Angels from the time I spent inside I could only fill heartache and never really thought any thing else but in time when visiting the demelza wow what a place so warm clean and u can she why they are a 5 * in my view children and younger adults are precious to us so that's how they should be treated all the time family and friends are very welcome and the staff and volunteers are a credit to demelza.

User

This evening we visited Demelza Hospice in Eltham to hand over money we raised by doing a sponsored walk. Ruth who does the fund raising kindly showed us around and explained what Demelza Hospice does. What a fantastic job everyone does, and we need to find a way of spreading the word as this place really does need every penny it can get. Well done for all your hard work and dedication.

User

They are amazing !

They looked after my son and made it possible to have him at home at all times.

They are sooooo caring , we were out of their area but they still supported us in West Sussex. As far as I know , they are the only hospice that will help you care for your child at home.

Forever greatful

Thank you

User

Really couldn't thank the guys & girls up there enough! We only stayed one night at the Sittingbourne house. As our first time we were there to see how it goes, turns out the 3 of us loved it. The care team are very kind and attentive, while showing an immense amount of support for the families they care for. Keep up the great work Ladies and Gents! ☺

User

Lovely place to have worked. Special memories of the children and families I met along the way and everyone on the care team who worked together to make sure each child felt safe, comfortable and as pain-free as possible during respite and end of life stays. I miss the sense of calm, acceptance and understanding that was often mixed with giggles, inevitable tears and cheeky smiles from children and adults alike. Shame to live so far away from the Demelza family now x

Living in America is hard, when your best friend has a special needs baby. I got to come spend a week with her and watch how the lovely staff cares for the children at Delmelza house. I was comforted knowing that they were getting such excellent care. Thank you for all that you do.

User

I've always loved to volunteer and two weeks ago, I started volunteering at the Parkwood Gillingham store. I was somewhat touched by the story behind the charity and this made me want to give my time more than I already did. I work with a great team and am enjoying every minute. The charity really is something special.

User

I recently started volunteering at the Eltham store. I do two afternoons a week, and these are now my two favourite days of the week, and look forward to them. I'm not currently working, and have had my share of sad times over the last year or so, but I am smiling again thanks to being surrounded by Sue and the girls. Demelza is such a wonderful place, I look forward to hopefully meeting more people and continuing to help in my own little way to raise money for such a great cause. It is a joy to be lucky enough to be part of it xxx

User

I have seen how well Demelza has helped many of the children & families that I work with over the years. All the staff are very welcoming and helpful when I visit. They are also very interested in the work I do with the children, taking on board different ways of working with the children to enhance their sensory input.

User

I have 5 children and my youngest son goes to Demelza for restbite. I can not praise this place enough for all they do for me, my partner and all our children. We most recently stayed there this weekend to celebrate Harry's 5 th birthday and all the staff went all out. A whole tea party with banners and balloons! They also let our other 4 children make memories with Harry that they will never forget. Thank you again. You are all amazing people x

User

Fantastic place really make you feel at home and you can honestly relax knowing your child is well looked after, last night was the longest my missus and I have slept in twelve years :)

They deserve every penny donated to them and more some things you just can't put a price on and their dedication is one of them.

Look forward to our next visit :)

User

Demelza is a wonderful place. My daughter laid there until her funeral. We didn't know they offered that service you hope you never have to. But my daughter & myself & my family were so well supported & looked after. Staff are wonderful special mentions to Louise,Karen & Anne & the rest of the care team for supporting us through & after a truly terrible time. Demelza will allways have a special place in my heart. Thank you from the bottoms of our hearts. Xxx

User

Demelza House and the team cared for our dear Ryan in his last days (2003)

They helped us through a very difficult time. The staff were just amazing, caring and walked every step of the journey with us. Our sons Harry and Samuel were very young and even to this day still support us if needed. When you loose a child it's a journey no parent wants to go on! This lovely hospice helps to ease the pain. Love and thanks to you all....

User

An amazing place. My Son visits and is due to go again soon. I was so scared the first time I visited Demelza but I needn't have been. The staff are fantastic and make you feel so at ease. They are there for the Whole family to support in so many ways, it really is like a family home. I would recommend Demelza House 100 percent. We wouldn't want to be without them as they are a marvellous lifeline...

User
