What a fabulous little place. Today marks a year to the day we visited. As non homosexual men, myself and my friend lee Houghton were made most welcome. We chose the downstairs room as our place to party as the upstairs room we felt like we were extras on an episode of bad girls with all the cages. The DJ downstairs was a lovely chap, and we really loved the idea of the campervan DJ box. Downstairs was karaoke which we thoroughly enjoyed. We decided to treat the regulars to a topless rendition on what makes you beautiful by one direction which was very well received. Returning to Dempseys before I pop my clogs is definately on the bucket list. Until next time, over and out.

The most fun I've ever had on a night out is in this place, never disappoints, always feel welcome. They also do amazing food in the day too, best cheesy chips I've ever had were here!

they kick people out for no reason, friend of mine was removed from the bar after asking for water and then a coke. Also called her "pal" the whole time, because of an old passport photo. Probably a potshot at transitioning

What an absolute disgrace to the LGBT community!!!! Me and my partner walked here for a drink and was told we wasn't allowed in after aggressively being told "You do know this is a gay bar?". They wanted I.D and said it's members only when we only wanted to come in for 1 drink before we headed home. I have worked and drank in gay bars for years and never had as bad and as unwelcoming experience as this. Avoid at all costs!

Typical dive bar, not very well maintained. Same generic "gay anthems" and very over-friendly and outright rude door staff.

The manager and there one bar tender decided to kick my trans sister out of the bar for no reason after she was trying to order a soda. From the looks of things this place seems to be a dump run by a transphobic and misogynistic twat that has no problem employing abrasive and amazingly horrible individuals. If you want a good gay bar i would avoid this place alltogether and save yourself some time, money and disappointment.

So tried to get in and because our friends did some thing we are now bared door staff are vile an rude been going there for over ten year and it is. Ok fro there staff to slate is on there Facebook and get away with it. It is disgusting how we have been treated I hope new clubs screw you over will no longer be wasting my money there what a joke

So because our friend had an argument on the door ( which we wasnt even involved in ) we are now barred for life after 12 years of going in there! The door staff are obnoxious and are vile towards their loyal customers because they have a new clientele!! I’m appalled as I am in management myself the level of customer service that I received on the door it’s disgusting, that place needs closing down and the door staff replacing... DONT GO ON THERE!!!! One of worst nights out ever door man (tony ) thinks he massive n hard because he sells drugs he thinks he can fight anyone i sat there n watched him sell drugs to a 16 year old girl when i pulled him bout it tries punching me in face then i find out he tried sleeping with 14 year old cousin police now involved be warned Don't go to dempseys!!!!! Not worthy of 1 star. Bouncer pushed my sister all the way down stairs and happily admitted to it as we have video proof, she had to go to a&e and is unable to work due to her injuries from the fall. This is because she picked her friends handbag up while she was dancing and he accused her of stealing it and pushed her down stairs when she and her friends tried to explain. She has posted on this page and they have removed the post. Absolutely disgusting.

Not surprised to read people here talking about being kicked out for no reason. One rule at Dempseys, if your not a friend of the staff your out.

I only rate 1 star because it won’t let me rate 0. The whole bar stinks. It’s vile. They have no idea of hygiene when it comes to their bathrooms that the whole bar then smells of piss and shit.

I came here Friday night to celebrate my best friends 30th birthday. He and his boyfriend had flown over from Malta for the weekend and having being to this bar for years, it was our first choice. However when I noticed my friend who was dancing in the cage had left her bag on the floor next to it surrounded by people, I thought I did the right thing by picking it up to look after it for her. Somebody saw me do this and went to grab a bouncer and accuse me of stealing it. Which fair enough any body could think that, but when this person and the bouncer wouldn't even listen to me or my friend explain, it is unacceptable! As we were having an amazing night before this, I obviously did not want to leave, and this was no reason to ask me to.

So I still cannot believe the fact that then this bouncer PUSHED ME down the stairs! He then proceeded to be an absolute vile and abusive human being to me outside. I have on video him admitting when people won't move he will push them, and that he 'doesn't give a fuck with girls like me'.

Funnily enough this is far from the first review on here about the aggressive door staff. Two years ago my sister got pushed to the floor by one and called a 'dyke'. Totally unacceptable language for any bar, let alone a gay bar!

Dempsey's was a popular and fun place to go some years ago. Most every LGBT person I knew in the area have been there at some point. Unfortunately, there is a completely different opinion now from the same people.

#1 complaint: Rude and aggressive door staff

#2 complaint: Needing ID to enter even when one is clearly of age

#3 complaint: Discriminating against straight people ( if this happened to a LGTB person at a predominately straight bar/club it would make headline news)



For the 'non members' don't feel you are missing out. Plenty of other LGBT friendly bars/clubs nearby that don't require ID, membership or bowing down to the door staff to enter

After hearing how my friend was treated at your establishment, getting told to leave for absolutely no reason aside from transphobic nonsense, I would never step foot in this place. If I ever do visit this neck of the woods, rest assured you will never receive my business, or anyone i know for that matter. Pro tip: if you're a manager and a customer calls to discuss something horrific that happened to them at your business, maybe don't treat them like garbage and hang up on them. Hatred and inappropriate behavior aside, that's just bad business practice.
