The popular Boat Shack is an important asset to the local tourist industry.... The expanding business has established a unique imagery/branding due to the existing structure being in a rustic authentic 'shabby chic' style; using approx. 90% reclaimed/recycled materials. The new approval to retain this structure as a permanent feature ensures the branding essential to the future of this business is retained and utilised effectively to link in with the future development of this site. As the existing cottage is classed as 'historically significant' it was extremely important that it remained the most prominent feature, therefore the ridge and eaves heights to all the extensions, along with the proportions and styling of all the openings became the vital key this project required to gain its approval.

An example of 2 new build townhouses...
The objective being to create all the space the client desired whilst maintaining the relationship with the surrounding buildings and ensuring the drainage worked effectively without any pumping requirements.
The use of contrasting coloured brick features was used to break up the huge expanse of brickwork and give them their own unique character...

An example of a 'Permitted Rights' development - including a few of the Building Regulations application drawings.
I love how this design evolved to create something that epitomizes what architecture 'should' be about.
Its not always about the quantity of space.....or the quality of materials; its about creating a well designed space that improves the lives and well-being of its occupants.
... The natural daylight and spectacular views this small extension creates not only improves the daily lives of the building users but also provides a feature which increases the building value.
