Thank you to all our clients who are being so patient with the way we are currently having to work. In order to protect both team and clients we are working with a skeleton staff so whilst we will get back to everyone who reaches out to us there may be sometimes when it takes us a little longer than normal. If you have an emergency then please telephone us rather than emailing. You and your pets are still our number one priority πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ˜·πŸ’™πŸ’™

You may have seen this on the news this morning - we just want to clarify that there have been NO cases so far where it is likely that cats have passed on Covid-19 to their owners. Or that they are likely to. Keeping cats indoors has been recommended due to the fact that virus particles COULD be passed on on your cats fur - but they also could be picked up from every other surface you touch! Please don’t panic or worry. Take sensible hygiene precautions. We will keep you updated as we know more.

Corona-virus update 30/3/2020
We are writing to let you know our plans for the next few weeks as a result of the corona-virus situation. For those clients and pets we have seen recently, thank you for your help and support with the measures we have in place to protect both our clients and our team here at Derwent Valley. All the clients we have seen this week have been very accommodating and together we are all doing our bit to reduce risk and the pressure on the NHS.
We wo...uld like to reassure you that we will be here throughout this difficult time to help with collection of medications and food and to see emergency appointments.
For the next 2 weeks we are operating with a skeleton team and on reduced opening hours which are now.
Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm Saturday 9am to 12pm
If you need medication, food or if you need advice or to make an appointment for your pet please contact us at the practice on 01629 55666. Collections will only be between these times. (Please note if you are a key worker and are not able to get here between these times ring us and we will bend over backwards to make sure we can help you out - we really appreciate all that you guys are doing for the rest of us).
Medications and food – please ring the surgery so we can get these ready for you and take a card payment over the phone. When you arrive at the surgery, please let us know you are here – wave through the window or phone the surgery on 01629 55666 and then wait outside. We will place your food/medication in the porch and once our team member has closed the internal door, you may collect your items.
Appointments – please again make us aware you have arrived and then leave your pet in the porch and close the outer door. Cats and small dogs in a cat basket/carrier and larger dogs attached to the dog lead hook on the wall. Once you have left we will take your pet through to the surgery and examine them as normal. We will then phone you to discuss any tests that may be required and the treatment options. If you are able to write down your concerns and any relevant history from the last few days that is useful for our vets.
If you are attending the surgery and any member of your household is suffering with symptoms of corona-virus, please let us know. Outside of these hours, if you have an emergency or need some advice, please ring the surgery number and you will hear an answer phone message giving you the mobile phone number of the vet on call (Claire or Rebecka).
Keep well everyone,
Rebecka, Claire and the rest of the team at Derwent Valley Vets

Some good news amoungst the uncertainty this week. We are very proud to say Derwent Valley Vets have been awarded the RWAF (Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund) silver award and have had our name added to the rabbit friendly vet list 🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰 HOORAY!!!.
The Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund (RWAF) is a charity dedicated to improving the lives of pet rabbits through education and campaigning. They have held a list of β€˜rabbit friendly vets’ for over 10 years now. They check eve...ry vet practice that applies to be on the list and they’ve recently re-launched their practice assessments to make them more comprehensive, covering a host of areas such as a rabbit wards, waiting rooms, pain management, diagnosis and veterinary skills.
On their website they always advise rabbit owners that using a β€˜rabbit savvy vet’ is vital and their rabbit friendly vet list is a great place to start. This list is available online.
Many thanks to our vet Ellie and our qualified veterinary nurse Clare Logan (we have alot of Claires) for putting in the work to make sure the whole practice is doing the best for our bunny patients.

Congratulations to our latest puppy class graduates Seamus, Rebus and Ethel who completed the course on Monday. Little Willow could not make the last session but had made great progress in the first three weeks. Her mates missed her πŸ’™ Unfortunately with things as they stand we have had to cancel the course that was due to start next week πŸ˜₯. If you were booked on this course or have a young puppy and you need advice on how to socialise or start to train them in the current climate please phone us as talk to one of the nurses. They have years of experience and plenty of good tips. We will let you know as soon as we are able to restart puppy training.
